In the Blog World:
Determination In Divine Love
Posted November 15, 2005
Is it possible to find the Lord? This is an apt question during this month (Kartik). This month we celebrate Yasoda Mayi capturing Krishna with her pure love - a feat that even the greatest yogi, or most intellectual jnani spends many lifetimes endeavoring for, but is ultimately frustrated in. We read how determined Mother Yasoda was in catching Krishna, her chasing after Him was causing her to perspire, and when Krishna finally allowed her to catch hold of Him she had to endeavor so hard in trying to tie him up. Every time she tried to tie Him the rope was magically just two inches too short, she kept getting more rope but each time it was two inches too short! So why did Krishna finally let her capture Him? What was the difference between her determination and that of the yogi? The difference was her selfless love. This is the most powerful thing, selfless and pure love is so powerful that it can defeat even the Supreme Personality of Godhead Himself.
So as western devotees in kali yuga what are our chances? Luckily we have the special mercy of Lord Caitanya. We have been given the the life line of the Maha Mantra: Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare, we have been given the special mercy of the Lord's pure devotee, HDG A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada who, in turn, has created many pure and dedicated followers that are tirelessly enlightening the world to the only real solution to our worries and sorrows, the permanent solution: love of God, freedom from all suffering.
The key is to grab on to this process with full vigor, to greedily desire to enage all our energy in consciousness raising. Dedication is foremost:
You [Lord Krishna] are not to be understood by indirect processes involving mental or physical activities. Because You are self-manifested, only when You see that a person is wholeheartedly engaged in searching for You do You reveal Yourself. Therefore I offer my respectful obeisances unto You.
-- Mother Earth, īSrimad Bhagavatam
I have surely made many slipups, and have yet to get that firm determination, that transcendental greed and pure love that is neccessary to gain the attention and full mercy of the Lord, but I know it is out there, and I know that through the special mercy of Srila Prabhupada and the acharya's that it is possible. I also know that I won't be happy unless I take full advantage of this rare opportunity. Lets see if I can catch some of that mercy....
