Having Seen the Sun

I have seen the sun, shining as the eye of God
Pouring glory into a pure azure sky
Brilliant energy generously beamed thru space

Then I dropped thickly into a whiteness
Lost sight of the sun in the oneness
Undifferentiated by eye from sameness

At once oneness opens underneath a ceiling of gray
Over a textured and variegatedness of green
Crisscrossed by streets and highways glistening black

A bump, taxiing, waiting, then walking out into the gloom
Waiting on the curb, smelling secondhand smoke
Complaints of fellow waiters fail against the chill of the mist

Looming deadlines unpaid bills unmade repairs waiting
Still more rain has the tiller in the shed waiting
Another day of rootbound tomatoes and zinnias waiting

Another suicide bomber fertilizes the griefs
Another harsh response sows sorrows
Another talking head with harvested laments

Weariness grayness willpower dissolving
Expectations unfulfilled unresolving
Endless renewing burden constantly revolving

Why go on?
Why try?
Why? Because

I have seen the sun, shining as the eye of God
Pouring glory into a pure azure sky
Brilliant energy generously beamed thru space
