Spay And Neuter Your Pets?
Posted November 26, 2006
I've got a question which I hope someone out there can help with. I keep pet rabbits, both male and female, but don't want to breed them. In the past I used to get them neutered, but now that I'm practicing Krishna consciousness, I'm not sure whether this is acceptable for devotees.
I understand that according to sastra, humans shouldn't use any kind of birth control but rather control their senses. However, how does this apply to animals? I can't really make my pets control their senses.
Neutering animals ensures that unwanted offspring don't enter the
world, and therefore risk abuse by uncaring humans or being euthanized
by shelters if no homes can be found for them. However, is it
karmically implicating to interfere with the reproductive process that
Krishna has created? I'd really appreciate any feedback on this issue.
