Corrections Re. Janakinatha's Obituary
by Varnadi das
Posted April 12, 2008

Please excuse any inconsistencies in the previous obituary. As I'm sure you understand, this is a stressful time for all involved. If Janakinath was 19 when he joined, it must have been in 1970, instead of 1973, as he was born in 1950 and passed away several days short of his 58th birthday. If he was initiated a year after joining, in 1974, he must have been 23 when he joined (this is likely the correct scenario). Also, he joined in the old Miami temple, not in Coconut Grove. I should have checked this at the time, but there was just too much going on. His widow, Vrndavan dd, is still doing her best to cope with the loss.

Russian Devotee Drowns in Ganges
by Vrindavan Lila Dasi
Posted April 11, 2008

5 y/o in the Moscow Bhaktivedanta Gurukula

The day before Gaura Purnima this year we lost a very talented and prominent gurukuli boy, Krsna Das (Krsital Valery). He was born in Moscow to Bal Krsna das and Savitri dasi. He was a very open and friendly character, a talented movie-maker and an enthusiast of keeping the gurukuli family united.

Several boys had been playing in a boat on the Ganges, diving and swimming. Krsna das's friends prompted him to jump off the boat also. Although he was a good swimmer, he badly misjudged the speed of the water where the boat had moved to. When he did jump in the water for the last time, he was swept away by the powerful current of the Ganges. (Click here for the full article)

New Audio Srila Prabhupada Lilamrita Website
by Dwarakadisa dasa UK
Posted March 30, 2008

Back in the mid 1990's Bhagavat-Asraya prabhu (ACBSP) recorded a charming abridged audio rendition of "Prabhupada, your ever well-wisher" by H.H.Satsvarupa Dasa.

It was never widely distributed and remained in my studio archive until I edited it into 8 parts for inclusion on my weekly radio programme "Nectar of Devotion" which airs each Sunday morning on NuSound Radio 92fm in London. We had such a good response from listeners that it was decided to add "The Audio Srila Prabhupada Lilamrita" to the Nectar of Devotion website archive page.

In doing so I felt it might be nice to create a very simple, seperate website for the Lilamrita.

The result is www.lilamrita.page.tl

Learned Vaishnava Departs in Vrindavan
by Sri Yogesh Goswami
Posted March 27, 2008

In the early morning hours during this year's Vasant Panchami festival (February 11, 2008), my father Sriman Madhva-Gaudeshvar- acharya Bimal Chandra Goswami left his body in a hospital in Vrindavan, India.

During a condolence meeting on the grounds of Sri Sri Radha Raman Temple in Sri Dham Vrindaban, many devotees and well-wishers paid tributes with all dignity. Golokavasi-acharya Sri Bimal Chandra Goswamiji was surely called back to Goloka by Shri Radha Raman Lal to serve Krishna over there. He had a leading soldier of bhakti, preaching to academicians, political leaders and intelligentsia. (Click here for the full article)

  Tulsi Devi
by Draupadi Singh
Posted April 11, 2008

Some of the dear devotees were not successful in contacting me at my cell phone number. Sorry for that.. For those who don't know, I am offering Tulsi manjari, seeds, leaves and wood. The goddess of devotion Tulsi ma-ji will always flourish in your hearts if you tend her, offer the leaves and manjaris to Krishna, and smell the fragrance which is more intoxicating than the best incense.

The wood can be used for rituals invoking Vishnu. A scrap of Tulsi wood in a cremation pyre propels the soul towards Krishna at a very rapid pace. This is my email direction - drupatisingh@aol.com. If you send your requests and your information I will reply as swift as an arrow.

He was a bright light that lite up any darkness around him, and he was a promising, talented gurukuli video artist whose programs were both professional and devotional. Spotlight: Prabhupada's Books:
The Ultimate Prison Escape Plan
by Madhava Smullen

ISKCON's Prison Ministry traces its roots all the way back to 1962, when Srila Prabhupada visited Tihar Prison in New Delhi. "If you give me the chance to speak to all the members of the Jail," he wrote to superintendent Sri Puri, "It is quite possible for me to turn them into ideal characters."

Yet it wasn't until 1988 that Candrasekhara Dasa established the official ISKCON Prison Ministry in the USA, as an outlet for householders to preach without having to leave their homes; all they had to do was write letters. (Click here for the full article)

A Winding Path to Straight-Edge Life
by Sukhada das
Posted March 31, 2008

About 12 years ago my friend Brian and I were staying up late, smoking pot and flipping though channels. As we scrolled though various channels we caught sight of what looked to be a punk-rock concert. Kids were stage diving, and a bald-headed singer on stage was singing. We thought we had stumbled across something pretty awesome, and the scene quickly changed. Now we were watching George Harrison sing a song we had never heard before. Still accepting this as "cool" for a show on public access in the middle of the night, the channel stayed on.

Shortly after Mr. Harrison's feature was over, we were bombarded with a bunch of shaved heads, kartals and people in orange outfits. (Click here for the full article)

Mayapur-Ganga-Sagara Jal Yatra

After successful completion of a "Jal Yatra" (Water Pilgrimage) from Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh to Mayapur in West Bengal - a full 1800 kilometres on the sacred rivers Yamuna and Ganga - the team of devotees are now attempting to complete the journey all the way down to the sea.

On the morning of Tuesday, 25 March, the team leader, Parasuram Prabhu, guided the re-assembly of the "Jaladuta" (a wooden raft on inflatable balloons with one sail, approximately 3m x 6m long). Pieces of the raft had been left in Mayapur last year September, after the first journey. (Click here for the full article)

  New Home for Calf?
by Lakshmi dd
Posted April 12, 2008

We have a new heifer calf named Cintamani. I'd like to sell her to a responsible devotee, or better yet a group of devotees. Accepting a cow is like adopting a child for the next 25 years. You have to be willing to do whatever it takes to care for them, regardless of your situation. She will be ready to leave for a new home this summer. Daily she goes for a walk and knows how to be tied and lead etc.

Her mother was a Milking Shorthorn and her father was a Jersey. From her pic you can see she is very beautiful with white legs in red body, with a tail that looks like it was dipped in milk. I already care for 5 other cows, (Usha 22years, Vrinda 19yrs, Chandra 7yrs, Rohini 3yrs, Kamadhenu 3 yrs), so if possible I would like this pretty girl to get a good home. 76 Unpublished Srila Prabhupada Letters

Samba, Hayagriva's eldest son, has found previously unpublished letters from Srila Prabhupada in his father's effects that Hayagriva had stored at his mother's house before leaving his body. As his grandmother approached the end of her life, Samba retrieved the boxes and has had them for five years.

He is currently cataloging the contents of the boxes. The collection of letters that Hayagriva had are from Srila Prabhupada to himself and his wife Shyama, as well as some to Kirtanananda and a few others. Most of them are already in the VedaBase, but many weren't. (Click here for the full article)

Official Response to Malati Devi Dasi
by Mathura das & Kirtanananda Swami
Posted March 25, 2008

Please consider this letter in response to Malati devi dasi's post "Kirtanananda Status" dated 16 March, 2008. Kirtanananda Swami does not in any manner represent himself or disciples as members of ISKCON. Kirtanananda Swami does not seek out, canvas for or recruit disciples from the before mentioned organization. He has not been invited to rejoin ISKCON and does not wish to be in a situation where he is not welcome.

If devotees within ISKCON seek, invite or select to have association with Maharaja, this is strictly on their own desire and resource. (Click here for the full article)
