Cult Dynamics In ISKCON?

Don' t lump us in ! That was the cry we always used whenever the media included ISKCON in the basket along with other minority groups. We' re not a cult, we are authorised. We' re simply misunderstood or misrepresented. If you don' t believe us, well its because you' re just plain demoniac. We are vaisnavas, we can do anything for Krishna. How dare you question what i say or do ,i am in the disciplic succession coming from God himself. If you dare criticise me , you are committing vaisnava aparada, you will suffer horribly, you are destined to rot in hell.

Does any of this sound familiar ? I' ve heard it plenty of times, i' ve seen it in practise, But this was something that happened years ago, prabhu you are just stuck in the past. It did in fact happen in the past, but scarily i see the same mentality fostered in the present, Unfortunately,or fortunately i see another generation of aspirant bhaktas coming to the ISKCON camp. Are they being taught to be, as Srila Prabhupada wanted, independently thoughtful people ? Are they being taught to discriminate between the cheaters and the cheated ? Are they being taught that Krishna consciousness is in fact, as His Divine Grace said so many times,a science. If we are determined not to repeat the mistakes of the past, should we not consider investing some of our precious time to study some of those very serious mistakes ? After all an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. What in fact are the symptoms of any cult following,? Blind following, sentimentalism, fanaticism..........doing things without any clear understanding why. What are the symptoms of a cult leader? One who reinforces any of the above, grossly or subtly Srila Prabhupada warned us against all of the above, we cannot fault him if we mess up. After all, as he himself said in one of his letters, if they don't follow my instructions, they are not my disciple.
