What Exactly Is the Real ISKCON?
Posted June 18, 2006
I really feel Lalita Madhava dasi prabhu hit it on the nail with her letter. There is no excuse whatsoever for anyone who has done these things to remain in any position, whether they have rehabilitated themselves or not, because it hurts the victims of the abuse and it turns away newly interested people. However, Dhanurdhara can't be the only one held responsible for this sad sequence of events and mismanagement. One who aids and abets a killer or other criminal is also considered liable and is punished.
It is extremely disheartening for people like myself -- and, I am sure, for other devotees -- who have recommended this nice Chakra website that newly aspiring devotees coming here to see something wonderful are met with such a situation. ISKCON is Srila Prabhupada's beautiful society. It is not an administration ofunqualified leaders. Anyone who follows Srila Prabhupada with some sincerity makes up ISKCON. Those who follow Srila Prabhupada sincerely do not hurt people. They are not rude, they don't aid criminals, nor do they wash under the table such thingsas have, disgracefully, happened to thesesweet children.
The general population is fed up withphony, hypocritical liars after years of exploitation by so-called leaders in religion. We know this from history. Srila Prabhupada came here out of his gorgeous mercy to slay this nonsense and set forth a society the world can believe in. How dare people attempt to taint this movement and thwart the dedicated work of the acharyas in our disciplic succession with unacceptable mismanagement and exploitation of Srila Prabhupada's International Society for Krishna Consciousness!
This is also a psychological issue for many devotees. Not everyone is fixed perfectly; those who are wavering in their application of Krishna consciousness and who have lost hope in the leadership suffer greatly because they are working on their faith. Not everyone has instant faith, having perhaps being misled by other so-called spiritual institutions in this world. Someone who has some "seniority" through time spent does notnecessarily hold qualifications for leadership.
Where is the philosophy coming into play here? Is it forgotten due to
administrative issues? It sounds something like the Christianity of the
past -- where, to quiet things down or to appease the masses, the
philosophy of Lord Jesus was watered down or not put into use, just to
smooth things over. Shame, shame, shame on all those on the GBC who
disgrace this movement by not handling properly the mandates set forth
by pure truth, who is none other than Krishna Himself and whose
spokesman is Srila Prabhupada! They must stop at once anything that
blemishes the sweetest gift we have here on this forlorn and chewed-up
planet: Srila Prabhupada's International Society for Krishna
