Srila Prabhupada To the Rescue

In her recent Chakra Posting "'Never Leave ISKCON', They Say" Bhaktin Sara says, "There must be some practical way we can have a voice in taking down from leadership an unqualified leader."

I am pleased to be able to inform Bhaktin Sara that such a mechanism was put firmly in place by Srila Prabhupada on July 28th 1970, but it was shelved by the GBC. It is called the Direction of Management and it is a voting system. Democracy is only "demon-crazy" when the voters are unqualified. But if the voters are practicing devotees, then Srila Prabhupada endorsed democracy.

Srila Prabhupada's original signed Direction of Management document can be viewed on the internet by clicking here.

To this day devotees are informed that Srila Prabhupada did not pursue his "idea". But that's not true. Four years later, in a signed document dated July 22nd 1974, Srila Prabhupada approved with his signature the following statement:

"There shall be a Governing Board Committee of trustees appointed by the Founder-Acharya His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada according to the document Direction of Management dated July 28, 1970."

It's no surprise that the GBC made sure that the Direction of Management was not factored into this Governing Board Committee of trustees. Indeed, they have made it their business since then to ensure that it was never factored into anything. "Officers for Life" has instead been made the order of the day with the consequent endemic corruption throughout ISKCON.
