In Praise of Mother Jahnavi

It has recently come to my attention that Mother Jahnavi Devi, a great devotee of Lord Krishna and His devotees, has come to leave this material world of suffering and pain.

About ten years ago, I had an extended amount of exchange with her while dealing with some abuse issues in ISKCON, and I was most impressed and relieved to have met and befriended such a sweet and understanding soul as Mother Jahnavi Devi. Although she was apparently very young at the time, her wisdom and genuine compassion far exceeded her physical years, and she offered advice and help so rare that even a sage of 100 years old would have probably fallen short of her maturity, grace, and kindness under such trying circumstances. In fact, despite the great trials and tribulations which occurred at the time to a sincere mother and her younger children, Mother Jahnavi brought a maturity and understanding which immensely helped to alleviate the previous and obvious wrongdoings which almost ruined a number of devotional careers and services. But somehow or other, she was able to offer the bright side and did her best to help rescue the sincere souls involved with great success and love. That was the special ingredient which she possessed above all else -- love -- and which helped to heal the hurts of so many in her care and in her life. What a wonderful legacy to leave behind for all to know, understand, and learn from. Therefore, I humbly offer Mother Jahnavi my greatest respect and admiration for a life well-lived and a service well-done beyond all expectations. Consequently, we all owe her an immense debt of appreciation and gratitude for setting an example of what it means to be a true and selfless Vaishnavi. All glories to her, and all glories to her service!

I'm sure that her beloved Lord Krishna has a special place in His heart for her and that she is now enjoying transcendental bliss and love of the highest order. She certainly deserves it without a doubt.

My humble respect, compassion and love go out to Mother Pavitra Devi Dasi and His Grace Sriman Abhimanyu Prabhu. It must be the hardest of times for you now, but please know that you have the undying love and support of all those who care and appreciate your most wonderful Jahnavi Devi Dasi, who is undoubtedly far beyond this world of duality and is now enjoying the transcendental life and bliss which she so rightly deserves. It's only a matter of a very short time now, when you'll all be back together again, enjoying Prabhupada's eternal association in the Spiritual Sky.

Once again, many thanks for this golden opportunity to offer my humble respects to a great soul whom we all admire and love. Mother Jahnavi will go down in Vaisnava history as one of the all-time greats. All glories to her lotus feet. All glories to her heart of gold, and all glories to her devoted family and friends.

Jaya Srila Prabhupada!

Your humble servant,
Padmapani das
