Hare Krishna. Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada

I was concerned about a trend I've been noticing lately in certain moods from certain devotees writing about ISKCON's difficulties. There seems to be a conscious or unconscious idea that many of ISKCON's problems, especially in regard to family life were created because many devotees were too busy preaching and distributing books to take care of their family. This may be true to some extent, but don't forget that the people of the modern society have to work and one of the biggest complaints of these people is that they don't get enough time to spend with their family because they have to slave away just to survive.

I am married and I don't have children which makes things a lot easier, but I have continued with Sankirtana because I can actually make more money doing book distribution than working with the current qualifications that I have. I also have flexible hours so I can spend quality time with my wife when I need to. We also live very simply so we don't need as much as many devotees nowadays think they need. Plus no one would argue that working a mundane job could never equal to one millionth of a drop of the nectar one recieves from churning the ocean of the Sankirtana movement of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu. I feel fortunate to have this opportunity to be engaged in this way and I'm definitely aware that most devotees will have to work and there is nothing wrong than that.

I just read a letter from 1967 where Srila Prabhupada said that a Grhastha should work and make nice income and take care of family, but he did clarify and said that taking care of the spiritual consciousness of the husband, wife and children is the most important. Don't sacrifice your K.C. for anything. What I'm getting at here is that Krishna consciousness is the most important thing and despite our material circumstances, we still have the duty to spread Krishna Consciousness, especially Srila Prabhupada's books in whatever way we can. One can buy books with their hard earned laxmi and give them to friends or advertise them on the internet. One can buy books and give them to libraries and cofee shops and doctor's offices. One can go out on the street and approach people and get donations(which is too much ecstatic). Or organize chanting parties and distribute them there. Become a Yoga instructor and preach that way. The sky's the limit. The possibilites are unlimited.

No matter what our position we have to Preach. Preaching is the essence. We should take nice care of our families, the devotees in the temple, take nice care of everyone according to our capacity and in this way preach and benedict the whole world with Krishna Consciousness. Tears came to Srila Prabhupada's eyes when he thought of the plight of the people of this world. The Kali Yuga is flaring up with all kinds of disasters and mental disorders. The darkest of darkness. Take care of life, but don't forget to preach. After all, Srila Prabhupada did say. If you really want to please me then just distribute books. Thank your for listening.

Your Humble servant,
Devaki Nandana Dasa
