The Passing of Mahavisnu Swami
Posted January 27, 2010
At about 3 p.m. on January 25, HH Mahavisnu Swami (91 years) peacefully passed away at the Bhaktivedanta Swami Hospital, Mumbai. Many devotees were present and having kirtan. Maharaja's eyes became clear as he looked around at everyone. He mouthed the Holy Name and left his body. It was the end of a glorious lifetime of blissful preaching.
His body will stay here for two days while disciples come from afar, and it will then go to Nasika for his samadhi.
Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakura, recalling the departure of his guru Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura, once said: "Today is one of great happiness and not the slightest grief. Today our master has re-entered the eternal pastimes of the Lord. Now it is our duty to remember his eternal position, name, qualities, form and pastimes. Henceforth we will follow in his footsteps even more concentratedly."
Upon Srila Gaura Kishora das Babaji Maharaja's disappearance, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati bemoaned: "Now who will chastise me, to make me undderstand the truth as it is? To whom will I show my articles and books? Who will take pleasure in hearing about the preaching work and the increasing splendor of the dhama and our service to it?"
