Lord Narasimha's Festival At Murari Sevaka

Posted May 4, 2009

His Holiness Bhakti Raghava Swami will be visiting Murari Sevaka on Saturday May 16th 2009. Maharaja is well known all over the world for his dedication to Srila Prabhupada's varnasrama mission. Last January four devotees from Murari visited his farm, Krishna Balarama Shetra, near Udupi in South India. There, he held a three month seminar on self sufficiency. This will be his second visit to Murari and it will coincide with our festival to Lord Narasimha. Maharaja will be our main speaker. He will also be giving Harinam initiation to Varadraj Prabhu, ISKCON coordinator for Alabama. Many devotees from Alabama will be coming along with Maharaja.

The festival will be presided by the Deity of Shanta (peaceful) Narasimha. This Deity was carved from a branch of the Sidha Bhakul Tree which broke off during a big storm at Jagannath Puri, India. He was hand carved by a brahman of the Jagannath Temple. The brahmana carved two deities, a large and a small one, for H.H. Indradyumna Swami who is a great bhakta of Lord Narasimha. The small one went with Maharaja and the large one came with me. This Deity is carved in Puri style after the Shanta Narasimha Murti of Jagannath Puri which was visited by Lord Chaitanya five hundred years ago. The Lord sits in yoga position, He has a large mustache and Laksmi Devi is sitting on His lap. He wears an auspicious necklace of shalagram shilas that I brought back from Vrindavan in my last visit.

The festival outfit has been sponsored by Shyam Gopal das and Siromani dd from Alaska. The Deity jewelry has been sponsored by Dhananjaya das and Satyabhama dd from Atlanta. We are looking for Narasimha bhaktas out there to come forward and sponsor the prasadam feast ($251) or the fire sacrifice ($201).

Don't miss this opportunity to participate on this maha fire sacrifice, to hear from the saintly personality of Bhakti Raghava Maharaja, to chant, dance and to enjoy delicious prasadam.
