Learn to teach Bhakti-Infused Hatha Yoga
We would like to offer a month-long intensive training for devotees who are interested in learning to teach hatha yoga as a segue to bhakti practices. The course will be taught primarily by Gopimata Sandal, who is registered with Yoga Alliance at the 500-hour level as an “Experienced Yoga Teacher – ERYT.” She is a disciple of Srila Prabhupada who has been teaching hatha yoga for 20 years. The classes will incorporate Iyengar-style as well as other eclectic styles of hatha yoga. Philosophy classes will be taught by senior Vaishnavas. This will take place at the Bhaktivana farm in Kansas through the month of August. There will be simple accommodation, nice prasadam, daily morning sadhana, and plenty of kirtan. We will strive to keep costs down and spirits high.
In regards to the question of utilizing hatha yoga in this way, Dhananjaya das, Srila Prabhupada’s disciple in Amsterdam, recalls that in 1975, during the time he was Temple President in Vrndavana, Srila Prabhupada advised him that “guests could be taught hatha yoga as he knew perfectly well that most guests from outside Vrindaban were not so much interested in practicing bhakti yoga to begin with but that hatha yoga which is good for bodily health could act as a stepping stone towards the ultimate goal of cultivating an attachment to the devotees & to Krishna.” (emphasis my own). While we go deeply into our Krsna Consciousness, we will experience a wellrounded exposure to asana, pranayama, mantra meditation, kirtan, anatomy, teaching methodology, and philosophy. Upon completion, the students will be certfied yoga teachers who are qualified to register with Yoga Alliance at the 200 hr level.
