Kavi Datta (ACBSP) About to Pass Away
Posted October 24, 2004
Kavi Datta Prabhu, a dedicated book distributor and veteran of the Radha-Damodara Traveling Sankirtan Party (TSKP), has been suffering for many years from advanced kidney disease. After extended hospitlaization, complications from internal infection, heart arrest and consequent brain damage, his family decided yesterday to disconnect him from his life-support system. Doctors have informed us that Kavi is expected to pass away within the next few days, if not sooner.
Kavi Datta Prabhu joined the Radha-Damodara TSKP at Atlanta in 1974 and then traveled around the country preaching and distributing books. Because of his expertise, he was drafted into the airport distribution parties under the tutelage of HH Tripurari Svami. He subsequently served in New York, Boston and then later in the San Francisco area.
Kavi Datta is distinguished by his quiet and gentle nature and his staunch determination to serve his beloved gurudeva, Srila Prabhupada. Despite his chronic debilitating illnesses -- including a bout with lymphoma (cancer in the neck), which he had to treat with chemotherapy -- he never let on to anyone the degree of his repeated sufferings, but silently tolerated them all, always remaining cheerful, upbeat and serious about his spiritual life.
Kavi Datta is survived by two older brothers who are also initiated -- Raktak & Balabhadra -- as well as a sister.
He will be missed by all those who knew and served with him.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
All glories to those who gave their lives to serve Prabhupada's mission.
Kavi Datta Prabhu, ki jaya!
