Remembering Sanjaya Prabhu
Posted November 27, 2007
I am saddened to hear that my good friend Sanjaya das has left this planet. I had nothing but pure respect for him; he was my sankirtan leader in New York City from 1977 till 1980.
Sanjaya prabhu trained me in the art of book distribution. He was a visionary, a classy devotee, who taught me how to be nice to devotees and how to speak respectfully to people I met in the airport or the streets of New York City. He taught me how to be clean and how to dress nicely. Once he took me to Saks Fifth Avenue to buy nice clothes for use when distributing Srila Prabhupada's books.
He was like a sankirtan general, having trained so many devotees in the art of book distribution: Yaduganguli, Amritamsa, Jad Bharat, Mahaprabhu, Raganuga Bhakti and Janmastami prabhus, to name a few.
I have nothing but fond memories of him; I would do anything for Sanjaya, because that was the right thing to do. I remember cleaning his room and picking up his books. I would have been happy just to have become his servant.
I miss him so much. He actually opened up JFK airport for
distributing Srila Prabhupada's books. In my eyes he's up there with
Pragosh prabhu, Tripurari Swami, Kalki prabhu, Sura prabhu and all
the great sankirtan leaders the world has known. I love you a lot,
