Niles, Michigan is staging their annual Rathayatra on Saturday, Sept. 27 at noon (Eastern time zone).

The staging area for Lord Jagannatha's chariot will be in the vicinity of 2nd Street and Howard Street in downtown Niles. Apple Festival Parade organizers have not yet assigned an exact location, but Niles is a small town, and Lord Jagannatha's Rathayatra Chariot is not difficult to find.

Local devotees say that this is "a very, very blissful event, all possible by the mercy of Lord Jagannatha and Srila Prabhupada, and, of course, all the nice devotees who have been attending for the last seven years."

Many people line the parade route to hear the Hare Krishna Mahamantra and to receive darshan of Lord Jagannatha, Lady Subhadra and Lord Baladeva, and to get a little bit of their prasadam. The Rathayatra festival is open to all, with chanting and ecstatic dancing for the pleasure of the Lord of the Universe.

After the parade, local devotees will be serving prasadam either at the Riverfront Park near the start of the Parade (next to the Wonderland Theatres) or, if the weather is too cool, at a devotee home at 2818 Mason Street in Niles. To reach that house, go five miles south from Niles on 3rd Street. Continue one block south of Bertrand Road, and take a left on Berris Street; the house is at the end of Berris Street.

You may contact the devotees at 269-818-0754, 269-357-9456 or 269-357-6383, or visit their website at http://home.comcast.net/~harekrishnaniles/.
