Posted May 1, 2005
On March 13th the Hare Krishna Centre for Vedic Studies opened its doors to the people of Leicester. At the grand opening ceremony invited devotees and guests from throughout the UK witnessed the installation of Their most beautiful Lordships Sri Sri Nitai Saci-Sundar by His Holiness Bhakti Ballabh Puri Goswami.
The Hare Krishna Centre aims to involve the nearby student community as well as those communities which had so far not much exposure to Krishna Consciousness. It operates an active 'Food for Life' programme at a drop-in centre for the homeless. Devotees intend to expand the prasadam distribution to other locations in the city also. The Centre has ashram facilities.
Devotees at the Centre have a strong commitment to book distribution. They have been successful in placing sets of Srimad Bhagavatams into schools and other educational institutions as well as in distributing large numbers of 'Back to Godhead' magazines door to door.
Further information and pictures of the deities can be obtained by visiting the Centre's website at www.gauranga.org.
