Queens, NY Ratha Yatra, July 1 2007
Posted June 19, 2007
The recently concluded New York City 2007 Ratha Yatra was a transcendental event of inestimably success. However, because the Lord is infinite and superlative in every sense, we can never arrive at a position of finite glorification of such an entity; devotional service is eternal!
Exercised by this unfulfilled potential, but more so by perfect knowledge of their fundamental identity, the devotees of the Lord are forever seeking new and sundry opportunities to please Him. Being possessed of thinking, affect and volition, the sapient Lord is attracted to the desires of His devotees in proportion to the purity of these desires. Krishna's response to the unadulterated, samartha-rati longing of the gopis and other residents of Gokula for Him to return from Dvaraka is a pristine example of such loving behavior of the Lord. Though surrounded by immeasurable opulence, servants, and beautifully bejeweled queens, the Lord Himself longed for the lush verdant foliage and friends of rustic Gokula.
This unique behavior of Sri Krishna belies the Ratha Yatra Lila of the Lord. Further, in this Lila, the Lord's magnanimity is amplified when He benedicts Sri Narada, that whomever shall see pull the Ratha Yatra chariot shall be freed from the sinful reactions of many lifetimes.
On Sunday July 1 2007, and at the behest of the fervid devotees, Their Lordships Jagannatha, Baladeva, and Subhadra Devi will again grace the streets of New York.
On this occasion, the Ratha Yatra parade will start at 1:00 p.m. from the corner of Liberty Avenue and 133rd Street, and it will end at the Sri Krishna Chaitanya Mandir (111-14 101 Avenue, South Richmond Hill, Queens, NY), the residence of Their Lordships Sri Sri Hari Haladari.
After the parade, Maha kirtan, devotional dramas, dances, book and free prasadam distribution, and other cultural items will continue until 7:00 p.m.; the devotees and their well wishers are then invited to attend the resident Sandhya arati.
Based on past trends and the favorable disposition of the Queens/Richmond Hill community, we are expecting a significantly large attendance. Direct disciples of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada who have pledged their attendance include H.H. Chandrasekhar Maharaja, H.G Ravindra Svarupa das, H.G. Ramabhadra das, and Bushara, Maheshvara (P.A.), Maheshvara (NY), and Saruttama Prabhus.
All devotees are being asked to make a special effort to attend. Kirtanyas! Please walk with your instruments and rested voices; you know what you have to do.
