Detroit Ratha Yatra
Posted June 6, 2008
ISKCON Detroit is having its Rathayatra festival on Saturday, June 28 at Belle Isle.
We had 2500 people attend last year and we plan to have 5000 this year for a bigger and better celebration. Last year everyone said it had been the best one yet. So please plan on attending for plenty of kirtan, and a two-and-a-half hour parade through Belle Isle for the pleasure of Lord Jagannatha, Lord Balarama and Lady Subhadra. There will be free bottled water along the way, and at the festival area there will be free entertainment, fascinating exhibits, drama, classical Indian dance & music, children's activities, lots of devotee association, and, of course, a free vegetarian feast of Krishna prasada. There will also be free shuttle bus (9 AM to 5 PM) from the main tent area to the parade procession.
The Deities will arrive at the cart at 10 AM and the parade starts soon after that near the fountain on the west end of the isle, and proceeds to the lighthouse area where the Festival of India celebration will continue through the day until 5 PM. Everyone is invited.
