July 3rd & 4th DC Ratha Yatra Festival

Dear Devotees,

The ISKCON DC temple would like to invite one and all to the Washington DC Ratha Yatra Festival of India. The Festival site will be on the National Mall in DC in front of the Capitol Building (3rd St. between Jefferson & Madison Avenues). The festivities will begin on Saturday, July 3rd from 11 am to 5 pm. The Ratha Yatra parade will be on Sunday, July 4th. Festivities will continue throughout Sunday from 11 am to 10 pm. (Please see parade instructions below if you wish to participate in the procession).

Throughout the weekend, a free feast for 10,000 people will be served. An Indian vegetarian restaurant tent will steam out hot pakoras, fried vegetables, puris, and many other spiritual delicacies. Bharat Natyam, Odissi and Kathak dancing by Visnu-tattva, Anapayini, Rasa-lila and Bhaktin Kemi, Kirtans led by Karnamrita, Gauravani, and Ganga-mantri, and Vedic dramas by the Vaisnava youth ministry and by Phani bhusan will round out the stage program. H.H. Bhakti-tirtha Swami, H.H. Gopal Krsna Goswami and H.H. Amiya-vilasa Maharaj are planning to attend. Sunday evening will conclude with the National fireworks display and a rousing Hare Krsna youth kirtan.

Parade instructions

If you wish to participate in the parade, please arrive no later than 10:30 AM at 4th street & Madison Avenue (look for the big red Ratha yatra canopy). Participants are advised to come early as the number of parade participants is limited. Only participants with traditional Vaisnava clothing may walk in the parade procession:

Children under the age of 13 are not allowed to participate in the Ratha yatra procession but are warmly invited to partake of the numerous events at the Festival site. Once you are on the procession you must stay with the procession until the end. If you arrive late, please do not try to enter the moving procession. This is an official requirement from the US Government Parade organizers. Baby strollers, backpacks and carry-on iterms are not allowed in the procession.
