Padayatra Orissa 2008.
Posted December 2, 2008
Sri Sri Gaura Nitai sat inside a beautifully decorated chariot which was pulled by bullocks. Their Lordships were joyfully accompanied by devotees from France, Ireland, Belgium, England, Estonia, Siberia and Russia as well as local devotees from ISKCON Bhubaneswar.
The 3 week padayatra traveled through the Ganjam district of Orissa, stopping in the afternoons for school programmes and then in a different village each night for kirtan, arati, bhajans, pravachan, drama and prasadam distribution. The villagers were interested in hearing the presentations about Krishna Consciousness, including those by some western devotees who learned to speak Oriya (the local language) which were enthusiastically received.
Every year, until his departure from the planet in 1996, Srila Gaura Govinda Maharaja would go on Padayatra spreading the Holy names in remote areas of Orissa .Srila Gaura Govinda Maharaja speaking about Padayatra on Dec. 30th 1995 said "This padayatra is Mahaprabhu's lila going on today... The fortunate living entities who accept and take part in Gaura kirtan, who go out and take part in chanting
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Such persons have life."
Sankirtan Padayatra ki jaya!
