Looking for a Hindu Scripture Teacher In Sydney
Posted April 10, 2006
I am a teacher at selective boys high school in Sydney and have been involved with the Hare Krishna movement on and off for about 9 years.
At present there are a small but significant (and growing) number of Hindu students of Indian and Sri Lankan background attending the school.
On Friday mornings there is a 45 minute "scripture class" scheduled into the timetable and each of the other main religions offer a member of their community to instruct the boys in each faith.
In year 7 and 8 it is compulsory for the boys to attend unless their parents give permission for them not to. Currently the Hindu boys do not attend scripture as there is no available teacher.
I am seeking to find a suitable person to instruct the boys in "Hindu" (I know that is not a term which is preferred but is all encompassing) scripture, primarily the Bhagavad-Gita. I envisage there would be a group of between 15-25 students, potentially more in future years.
Applicants need to be subject to a NSW Police Probity check for working with children and experience in teaching or related fields would be advantageous. Most importantly i am looking for someone with a fresh and enthusiastic (not dogmatic or bombastic!) disposition who will nurture and encourage the boys in their spiritual endeavours.
The position at present is not paid, but may become so in the future, depending on the success of the class.
Interested applicants should email me at sbhsdebating[at]gmail.com with a statement about their interest in the position, their qualifications/experience and their ideas for teaching the boys ( *at present there is no set curriculum...).*
If anyone has experience teaching Vedanta/Gita classes and could assist with electronic resources or advice, it would be most appreciated.
