Book Details Devotee Women's Glorious Departures

I have noted the devotees' response and concern over the misogynistic messages on women being propagated in the name of Srila Prabhupada and Krsna consciousness. Whether it is in the extreme (as here) or the more common 'moderate' form of denigration (women are this, women are that...), it still diminishes enthusiasm and faith in Krsna consciousness and in being able to attain the goal of spiritual life. I directly experienced this myself and moreso through the confusion and pain of many other devotee women.

It was with this concern that I spoke with HH Bhakti Tirtha Maharaja on how to help the large numbers of devotee women whose sincere endeavors in spiritual life are adversely affected by having to bear the demeaning attitudes stemming from spiritually immature male egos. Maharaja replied: "Confidentially (although I don't normally speak confidentially, as it goes against the culture of love), my research shows that women are beating the men hands-down in how they leave the body. You can fool the whole world, but you cannot fool Krsna. He knows what is really in our hearts." Maharaja then suggested: "Why don't you write a book showing how gloriously the women devotees are leaving their bodies? This will encourage them and also change the hearts of others where philosophy alone cannot."

The book, Death Divine, is the direct result of Maharaja's words. The fact is that above and beyond the impediments those in a female body experience in this material realm, devotee women are surpassing this mundane platform and are attaining the supermost spiritual goal.

We must remember that the zenith of the spiritual realm is the sweet and loving feminine energy where being the servant and the enjoyed one is predominant. The material realm, however, is predominated by the masculine energy; that of being the controller and enjoyer. Thus, the feminine energy is naturally akin to the spiritual realm, and the masculine energy is more akin to the material realm. It is the feminine mood which we all (female- and male-bodied) must align ourselves with to access the spiritual realm.

As said by Srila Prabhupada: "Srimati Radharani is a tender-hearted feminine counterpart of the supreme whole, resembling the perfectional stage of the worldly feminine nature." (SB 2.3.23 purport)

The back cover of Death Divine explains: "Srila Prabhupada established the International Society for Krsna Consciousness in 1969 and promised the topmost spiritual attainment of going "back to Godhead'' for anyone who sincerely followed the path of Krsna consciousness that he gave. Now, thirty-eight years later, we can see the result of those who lived and died relying upon Srila Prabhupada's promise. Read about the struggles and the success of five women who faced death spiritually and attained the highest spiritual perfection."

This book reveals how any material situation is not a hindrance to receiving the full, causeless mercy of Guru and Gauranga. If they can do it, so can you!
