April 22 and 23, 2006 saw ISKCON Leicester hosting well over 160 ISKCON devotees from all over the UK in its annual Midlands Retreat. The aim of the retreat is for ISKCON devotees to come together and enhance their Krishna consciousness in the company of different senior devotees.

This year's event was staged at the Leicester Belgrave Neighbourhood Centre in the heart of the city, an old church building where the devotees took part in a wide range of activities and seminars. Presiding over the retreat were H.H. Jayadvaita Swami, H.H. Jayapataka Swami and H.H. Kadamba Kanana Swami. Also on the lineup were devotees like Kripamoya das, Jayadeva das, and Haridas prabhus. The Maharajas led seminars in congregational development, the six items of surrender to Krishna, initiation within ISKCON, and yoga, as well as a special youth seminar. There were also question & answer sessions in which the sannyasi guests covered a wide range of subjects.

Highlights included entertaining dramas by the participating devotees portraying each one of the items of surrender. The dramas were judged by Jayapataka Maharaj, who said he enjoyed them very much. The kirtans, led by Haridas and Kripamoya prabhus were charged with energy, and everyone was dancing and chanting in ecstacy in front of murtis of Srila Prabhupada and Sri Sri Pancha Tattva.

From 9 a.m. till 9 p.m. the day was filled with a wide range of activities. During regular breaks, sumptuous Krishna Prashad was served to the satisfaction of all who honoured it. The participants of the retreat hailed from all corners of the UK -- places such as Ipswich, Reading, Farnborough, Manchester and Macclesfield -- as well as France and even Dubai.

The guests were accommodated in a local hotel, a short distance from the retreat venue. Devotees also took advantage of ISKCON Leicester's gift shop, which fulfilled all devotional-paraphernalia needs. ISKCON Leicester's team of enthusiastic devotees served all the guests and the whole event went very successfully.
