With well over 2,000 plates of prasadam served and even a greater number of people walking through the Festival of India, Baltimore’s Fourth Annual Jagannatha Rathayatra and Festival of India was a huge success!!!

The ISKCON Baltimore Rathayatra Committee would like to offer its humble obeisances and appreciation to all the devotees who helped make the festival possible. Your service personally, financially, or by just attending was much appreciated. Special thanks goes out to devotees who came all the way from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Washington DC, West Virginia, and even Florida, to be a part of this blissful event, in service to our divine spiritual master, Srila Prabhupada, and Lord Jagannatha.

Special recognition goes out the devotees of ISKCON Potomac who helped cook and transport the delicious feast and took charge of the book distribution activities at the festival site. Also, our deep appreciation to all the devotees and congregation of our own ISKCON Baltimore who not only helped with the publicity, fund raising, cooking, and worship of Lord Jagannatha, but also assisted the Festival of India crew with set up and take down of the festival site. We pray to Lord Jagannatha to always be in the association of devotees like these, who exemplify that working together as a group of devotees, servants of Guru and Gauranga, anything can be accomplished.

Lord Jagannatha, being the Lord of the Universe, was the Supreme Director of the festival. He allowed for a beautiful day in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, with cool winds providing a nice refreshing breeze for all the devotees and onlookers.

The procession lasted for almost two hours with devotees chanting and dancing blissfully together whilst being led by a police escort up Light Street, one of Baltimore's main tourist streets, to the Festival of India site. Kirtans led by Sarvajaya Prabhu, Shastrivar Prabhu, and Gaura-vani Prabhu among others were nothing but ecstatic and caught the heart and soul of all devotees and passersby.

Again this year, representatives from the Mayor's office presented ISKCON with various credits including a Citation of Appreciation for its service as a cultural and religious institution adding to the diversity of the city. Representatives from other governmental offices were also present, including both Senators offices. As an opening address to the Festival of India, Baltimore's Sunanda Prabhu welcomed the devotees and onlookers, and later both H.H. Candramauli Swami and H.H. Hanumat Presaka Swami addressed the crowd.

Over 500 books and even more pamphlets were distributed and thousands of people got the opportunity to hear the holy name, perhaps for the first times in their lives. The stage program, MCd by Pragnesh Surti Prabhu from New York, kept the audience entertained. As is Baltimore tradition, a rapturous stage kirtan performed by ISKCON youth amassed a massive crowd and closed the 2006 festival.

We were very pleased with the results of this year's festival, Baltimore’s fourth, which the Lord kindly bestowed upon us. We hope to grow the event even more in years to come so that we may continue to serve the mission of Srila Prabhupada, and Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu.
