Padayatra America Report

June 21 , 2003 (from the diary of a Padayatri)

We move on at 11:30 am few miles to a small town. As usual, while parked at the "Feed Store" people crowd to inquire, take pictures, feed the horses. Candrabhaga d. went to get some vegetables and the Latin people who owned the store gave donations of fruits, vegetables and laxmi. Simply they saw what we were doing and they liked to hear the 'Spanish' of Candrabhaga d. and with little communication Krsna in their heart inspires them to get mercy.

Moving on, route 620 towards route 647 and hoping to be on Rt. 522 in 2 days - (better road not as narrow/winding); it seems better to avoid so small roads, as the preaching is better on secondary highways. It is not always possible; currently we are on a very small, narrow winding country road.

I saw a hose for water, so we stop. At this time some cows come to take darshan. Few cars came and suddenly a gentleman stopped to read the map, see the Deities, take a book, give a donation and help with the roads. As usual we ask him to pray for us, to be able to carry on with this mission. He said, "Yes I am a believer." Hare Krishna!

We fill up the water containers, the horses drink and we move on, hare krsna hare krsna krsna krsna hare hare hare rama hare rama rama rama hare hare.

We move slow (compared with cars), this is real speed. In Padayatra we can appreciate things, we can analyze introspect about what we are seeing is just natural. The horses move steadily, peacefully, the wind blows the fields; there are some cows at the end of the field.

As Bhakti Tirtha Swami said, I am seeing Kana and Govardhan (padayatra horses) as very special jivas. They really personify a proper relationship of servant with their Lordships. I don't have any doubt that they have a deep relationship with them. They are always eager to serve their master. They work hard, they don't complain, they tolerate the weather, the circumstance of place, the trucks on the narrow road, the police cars, the trains, the "Harley Davidson" and they continue doing their service. They are excellent servants, always ready to please. Hare Krsna! Such an example for me!! By doing what I ask them to do (which is only for the pleasure of Sri Sri Guru and Gauranga) without knowing, they are getting a deep mercy and a very close relationship with Sri Sri Nitai Gaurasundar and Lord Narasimhadeva.

They are excellent Padayatris. They attract people and when people come they see the Deities, take prasadam, literature, give donations, etc. They walk for long periods of time; they love to work and move on like Sannyasis and fully depend on their master. They move day after day building a strong relationship with their Lordships.

As Srila Prabhupda said to H.H. Lokanath Swami in Kumbha Mela 1977 after seeing the oxen with the Padayatra cart, in a deep way he said "Yes, these oxen at the end of this life will go back to godhead because they have been dutifully pulling their Lordships Sri Sri Nitai Gaurasundar day after day."

Srila Prabhupada Ki Jaya!

Kana das and Govardhan das Ki Jaya!

Padayatra Ki Jaya!

Who is next? Where? We stop in a farm; one gentleman came and invited us to stay at his place. We sleep at 10:30pm.
