Chakra's Vaisnava Hagiographies

Posted July 9, 2003

You may have noticed series of biographies of well-known and not so well-known personalities on Chakra. Chakra is attempting to develop a series of biographies of Gaudiya Vaisnava saints, preceding and including Srila Prabhupada. Drawn from a variety of sources, their authenticity may not be universally recognised. Some hagiographies may be widely told, yet be inaccurate or even contradict other biographies of the same saint.

Additionally, some saints may be more widely known in one branch of the Vaisnava tree than elsewhere. Those surprised at glorification of a particular saint will surely, like the honeybee, "look for the nectar". Readers finding inspiration in a particular departed Vaisnava are invited to submit article proposals a month before their appearance or disappearance day on the Vaisnava Calendar. Please remember that the purpose is glorification of an honored Vaisnava, not furthering particular agendas or political positions.

Lacking scholarly resources to perform research, Chakra would appreciate correspondence offering corrections and/or submissions. Whenever possible, please accompany hagiography submissions with a bibliography of works cited or drawn upon.
