I'm Not Here
by Shehas Gonn
Posted September 27, 2007

To all who bring a floral wreath,
To me who lies six feet beneath,
A little secret for your ear-
Save your trouble, I'M NOT HERE!

If I'm a soul and live forever
Do you think I'd hang around here- never!
This boring place I won't be near,
So save your flowers, I'M NOT HERE!

Place them in a pretty pot
Where passersby can peer a lot,
And 'ppreciate their colors clear
'Cos I can't smell 'em-- I'M NOT HERE! (Click here for the full article)

A Plea For Non-Discrimination Clauses in ISKCON's Constitution

My hope is that ISKCON's new constitution will contain clear, carefully worded non-discrimination clauses to protect women and minorities. As president of GALVA (The Gay and Lesbian Vaishnava Association), my particular concern is with GLBTI-embodied devotees and temple guests.(1)

We have already witnessed regrettable discrimination against women in our society's recent history and there should be no doubt that various minority groups experience similar types of discrimination. (Click here for the full article)

There is a persistent urban legend that chocolate contains caffeine. It would seem that this rumor is based primarily on a confusion between two similar alkaloids: caffeine and theobromine. Theobromine is the active ingredient in chocolate, and it occurs only in cacao. The two stimulants are related and have a similar structures, but are very different chemicals with different properties, effects and origins. Of course, some chocolate products have added caffeine, but it does not occur naturally in chocolate. (Click here for the full article)

Imphal, Aug. 23: Hanjabam Nandakishore Sharma has spent the better part of his 90 years staging plays in which good triumphs over evil.

Last year, on Janmashtami, he failed for the first time to show that evil never wins. An explosion at the Iskcon temple in Imphal on that day not only killed and maimed people watching a Ras Lila performance, but also sabotaged Sharma's dream project - a play on the Vaishnavite movement in Manipur. An email exchange I viewed between Sesa das and a member of the community addressing ISKCON constitutional issues highlighted the value of public discussion around constitutional issues, and the lack of a suitable forum at the time. (Click here for the full article)

First Russian Kuli Mela. a Few Impressions.

In north India, the name Kuli (written Coolie) is used for porters who help carry your luggage on train stations for small money. Another similarity that came to my mind was that of the russian bread 'KULI-chki' eaten on Russian Easter. But a 'Kuli' Mela? I only witnessed Diwali melas or Kumbha melas! ...
