Departure of Sri Hare Krishna Das Babaji
by Madhavananda das,
Bhubaneswar India
Posted September 30, 2003

We are sorry to inform the devotee community about the departure of Sri Hare Krishna Das Babaji Maharaja. He departed from this world in the afternoon on Sunday the 31st of August, on the auspicious day of Ganesh Caturthi at the ancient temple of Tota Gopinath in Jagannath Puri. That day after taking Gopinath prasadam, Hare Krishna Das Babaji closed his door to take rest. Before doing so he instructed a riksha walla to come and wake him up at 3 pm, as he wanted to go somewhere. When the riksha walla came and knocked on the door there was no answer. The devotees finally broke down the door and found Maharaja's body lying peacefully on his bed. (Click here for the entire article)

A Call for Equipoise
by Srila das
Posted September 29, 2003

I want to join in with others voicing their disappointment in VNN for publishing articles like Srivatsa's "Repetition of History," which lacked coherency, was poorly supported, and above all displayed sentiments inappropriate to an assembly of Vaisnavas. As our Divine Master Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada noted when asked as how to identify a Vaisnava, "He will be a perfect gentleman." Anti-Semitic rhetoric has little place in a Krsna-conscious forum, save and except to be rectified by a more enlightened understanding. A previous article by Jan Brzezinski has already addressed those particular issues. (Click here for the entire article)

Your Rogue Anti-Vaisnava Letter
by Brahma Das
Posted September 23, 2003

I received quite a number of favorable comments about my article entitled Rogue Anti-Iskcon Fliers Disrupt LA Rathayatra: http://www.chakra.org/discussions/succSep08_03.html

The only unfavorable comments I received came from a very rude follower of the ritvik philosophy and a rather civilized and humble letter from a siksa disciple of Srila Narayana Maharaja that I received with the title "Your Rogue anti-Vaisnava Letter". I have no desire to attack or belittle the faith of a sincere godbrother who has years of Vaisnava seva in his favor but I decided to post his letter and my response to it because his letter contains his reasoning as to why anti-Iskcon fliers at Rathayatra are acceptable. That reasoning can be summed up as amar-guru jagat-guru (my guru is the greatest guru), a philosophy in practice that can only lead to continual clashes between otherwise sincere devotees affiliated with different groups. "Final Orders" for Recovery
by Niscala d.d.
Posted September 18, 2003

In a recent article, Rogue anti-ISKCON flyers disrupt L.A. Rathayatra, Brahma das cited Prabhupada's will, in which he declared that ISKCON's Governing Body Commission was to be "the ultimate managing authority" for ISKCON.

I have no disagreement with this, but why should Brahma prabhu refer to this in an article about succession? The GBC are clearly the managerial authority of ISKCON, not the spiritual authority. To equate the two is a serious mistake -- one that ISKCON has committed, to its own undoing. (Click here for the entire article)

Kartik 2003 in Vrindavan
by Deena Bandhu das
Posted September 17, 2003

Now that Janmastami and Radhastami Festivals have been joyfully celebrated, thoughts naturally start turning to the Kartik Festival, as the rivers run to the sea. Everyone is still talking about the wonderful festival that we had last year in Vrindavan. There was ecstatic churning of the Nectar of Srila Prabhupada's pastimes for three days, with so many of Prabhupada's disciples giving us a glimpse of that Pure Devotee who walked amongst us. Glimpses that are becoming more precious as time moves on. People were astounded at how nicely the prasadam was served by the devotees of ISKCON Chowpatty. Wonderful Parikramas, ecstatic kirtans... VNN publishes anti-Semitic editorials

Quest for truth requires discernment

In reply to the "Lunatic's Logic" article by Niscala dasi:

I think most of us are in complete illusion. Can the ant understand the knowledge or even the life of human beings? Can the ant understand the intricacies of the earth as understood by humans? If we compare the ratio of the ant's size to the earth and the ratio of our size to the universe, or even the solar system, we will understand that we are insignificant beings. Unless we expand our consciousness to delve into higher dimensions, we cannot understand the Absolute Truth, just as the ant cannot understand reality as perceived by us.

One reason why Krsna consciousness has spread around the world is because in many cases young, energetic devotees are helped by older devotees, who though they may be tied to their situation by various obligations, are eager to provide financial help to others who are willing to do the hard work of setting up a Food for Life program, building a temple or setting up a goshalla. Together they can develop an attractive Krsna conscious project in a way that neither of them could manage working alone. (Click here for the full article)

Open letter to VNN
by Brahma das
Posted September 20, 2003

Swami Tripurari, the Sanga Staff and the residents of Audarya, would like to join with those protesting the blatantly anti-Semitic editorials that were recently published on VNN. Editorials like those are the bread of life for racists, skinheads, and neo-nazis but have nothing to do with Gaudiya Vaisnavism, the path of absolute love. Therefore we urge VNN to desist from publishing any more anti-Semitic articles, and to remove those already posted on their site. Those tasteless articles left us speechless but Brzezinski found exactly the right words to say about them: http://www.chakra.org/discussions/LetSep16_03.html

Rogue anti-ISKCON flyers disrupt L.A. Rathayatra

ABSTRACT:That ISKCON management still feels it imperative to maintain a blanket prohibition against association with Gaudiya Math acharyas is in my opinion a serious mistake that needs to be rectified. Apparently many others feel this way as well because Prabhupada's disciples even those in ISKCON largely ignore this ban. But any positive change from ISKCON leaders on this issue will be a long time coming if aggressive acts like handing out anti-ISKCON fliers at Rathayatra and the ISKCON Sunday Feast continue to be accepted and encouraged by certain devotees now connected to Gaudiya Math.

Unfortunately, there have also been divisions, arguments, and a lack of cooperation amongst Godbrothers.
