The Highest Aspect of Free Will
by Satyadeva das
Posted October 31, 2007

I would like to respond to the article submitted by April Hammond ("Happiness or Distress: Taking Responsibility").

I thank April for bringing awareness to such pressing questions as: "What does Krishna want me to do?" Trust. "What is my dharma?" To discover one's God-given gifts and purpose: service.

"Is this really my dharma?" Free will. The sky is the limit. Well, actually our conditioned beliefs about ourselves, other people and the world are what limit us. Our dharma is to serve as we choose to. (Click here for the full article)

Making Sense in Bhakti
by Gaurav Mittal
Posted October 30, 2007

A few years ago, I realized that there was some improper application of the process of bhakti within iskcon, with the result that I was becoming unhappy and depressed. The problem was that I was focusing on principles which had very little effect on my spiritual advancement and I was neglecting those principles which could nurture my bhakti.

Bhakti is surrender to Krishna , which is our internal consciousness, and therefore it requires maintaining inner equanimity in regard to raga (attachment) and dvesa (aversion). It should result in happiness and contentment. So, I took a new look at sastra and decided to accept only the principles which made sense to me. (Click here for the full article)

What Makes Sense
by Chakra editors
Posted October 22, 2007

Making sense -- is it integral, important, or even relevant to us? Isn't that what intellectuals try to do? (Dr. Frogs, the lot of them!) And the real question: What in Goloka's name does "making sense" have to do with Radharani?

Despite all that, we have decided to start a new forum called "Making Sense". Our impetus is the following considerations. Firstly, to understand fully our philosophy, to develop faith that is not blind, to apply Krsna-conscious principles with foresight and wisdom, as well as to preach effectively, one must make sense of the precepts handed down to us in parampara. Regarding Kratu Prabhu
by Krishna Kripa Dasa
Posted October 21, 2007

What I know, is that H.G. Kratu Prabhu took first initiation from Srila Prabhupada, but the ceremony as well his chanting beads were handed by Kirtanananda Swami, second he took for KS. I am not seeing anything wrong in his claims that he is Prabhupada´s disciple, because he actually is.

In Iskcon harinam (1st initiation) is regarded more important that gayatri diksha (2nd initiation) while in the Gaudya Math is the contrary.

Those who were initiated till Govardhana puja 1977, are considered Prabhupada´s disciple, after 14 november 1977, are disciples of Srila Prabhupada´s disciples. (Click here for the full article)

Spotlight: Hungary for Enlightenment
by Madhava Smullen

In the 1970s, when devotees first printed *Bhagavad-gita As It Is*, *The Perfection of Yoga,* and *Sri Isopanisad *in Hungarian, it was hard to see Hungary as a country where Krishna consciousness might flourish. Communism had reigned since 1949, and with its power still formidable, devotees had to keep their spiritual activities under the radar.

But in 1986, when the Austrian border opened up, Krishna inserted a foot firmly in the door. Hungarian tourists were pouring into Vienna by the thousands to buy TV sets (Click here for the full article)

Vaishnava Documentary
by Bhargava das (ACBSP1970)
Posted October 15, 2007

Here is a chance to spread Knowledge of Krishna and the Vaishnava culture on National and International television. I have been working on producing a fourteen half hour television series on the Vaishnava culture of India. It is based on a concept presented to Srila Prabhupad. Srila Prabhupad liked the idea and gave mood and direction to the project. The project is now ninety percent complete. I am seeking donations to raise the last fifteen thousand dollars to complete the project. The money will be used for music, narration and gaining releases from dance, film and art sources. This is a non-partisan project that will help all the Vaishnavas in their effort to make the world a better place. For those that don't know me (Click here for the full article)

A Concern
by Gaur Kishor Dasa
Posted October 14, 2007

I was surfing the net today and came accross a site www.kratuprabhu.com and I read it with concern.

Kratu Dasa is giving initiations under the claim that he is a disciple of Srila Prabhupada, which is not the case. He was initiated by Kirtananada Swami only and was not active in the movement at the time of Srila Prabhupada's physical presence.

Obviously being a guru brings disciples and numerous fringe benefits along with it, however it also brings a responsibility having the qualities of a spirtual master and helping people go Back to Godhead. Obviously truthfulness is a required quality to accomplish this mission. (Click here for the full article)

Update On Syamasundar And Gopinath Prabhus
by Parijata devi dasi (wife of Gopinath Prabhu)
Posted October 13, 2007

Many devotees have been inquiring about the health of Shymasundar prabhu (ACBSP) and Gopinath prabhu after their successful liver transplant surgery and thus I am forwarding this update.

A couple of days after the surgery Shymasundar prabhu developed some bile leak from one of the tubes that connect the transplanted liver to his body. This is not an unusual occurrence in liver transplants. The surgeons performed a laparoscopy on Shymasundar prabhu on 9 Oct '08 and fixed the problem. He was in discomfort earlier due to the bile leak but is in good spirits now. He should hopefully be discharged from the hospital in a couple of days. (Click here for the full article)

Krishna Camp At Burning Man
by Nitai dasa
Posted October 9, 2007

This year's Krishna Camp at Burning Man was a great success!

40 team members from all across the country came to participate.

Last year our camp featured a 30 foot tall temple where very special deities of Lord Jagannatha, Baladeva and Subhadra resided. This year we brought a full scale 35 foot tall wooden Ratha-Yatra Chariot just like from India!

The first night of the event was a total eclipse of the moon coinciding with the sacred day Balarama Purnima. At two in the morning during the middle of the eclipse, to everyone's surprise someone climbed atop the Burning Man and set it on fire! (Click here for the full article)

He recently passed away in his New York City apartment, due to unknown causes.

Mr. Robert, as Srila Prabhupada affectionately called him, met Srila Prabhupada in early 1966 at the New York City ashram of Dr. Mishra, and they became fast friends. Ever since the early days of the movement, Mr. Robert remained in touch with the New York temple through thick and thin, (Click here for the full article)

Radhanath Prabhu Has Left His Body

British MPs from the three major parties will be requesting the Foreign Secretary, David Miliband to speak to the Kazakhstan President to stop the harassment and human rights abuse against minority Hindu communities in that country. They made this promise at an event organized by the Hindu Forum of Europe at the House of Commons on 22nd October where two Kazakh human rights activists, Yevgeniy Zhovtis and Ninel Fokina made a presentation on how Hindu houses have been selectively targeted for demolition and a Hindu temple confiscated by a Kazakh Government that they claim is 'increasingly modeled on the totalitarian style of the older Soviet Union'. Happiness or Distress; Taking Responsibility
by April Hammond
Posted October 24, 2007

I am often confronted with an issue that may hit close to home for many devotees: "What does Krishna want me to do? What is my dharma?" More often, I am confronted with this one: "Is this really my dharma?"

I have for years been wandering around in my life watching other devotees and myself follow something that we believed at the time to be our destiny but that turned out to be our downfall. Many of us have lingered in jobs, in certain communities and in relationships upon which we later look back and feel horrified.

Yes, yes, I know that everything is in perfect arrangement, but should we always be allowing ourselves to suffer and say: "It is all in Krishna's hands." (Click here for the full article)
