Remembering Sanjaya Prabhu
by Noel Dela Merced
Posted November 27, 2007

I am saddened to hear that my good friend Sanjaya das has left this planet. I had nothing but pure respect for him; he was my sankirtan leader in New York City from 1977 till 1980.

Sanjaya prabhu trained me in the art of book distribution. He was a visionary, a classy devotee, who taught me how to be nice to devotees and how to speak respectfully to people I met in the airport or the streets of New York City. He taught me how to be clean and how to dress nicely. Once he took me to Saks Fifth Avenue to buy nice clothes for use when distributing Srila Prabhupada's books. (Click here for the full article)

An offering to Srila Prabhupada on his disappearance day:

One moon is better than a million stars, but one moon is bettered by many moons. The League of Devotees searches for success, but stumbles not sure what that success shall be.

Srila Prabhupada is an eloquent lecturer, an incisive conversationalist, a singer of many mellows, a concise commentator, a powerful person of divine transcendence. In unique contribution, he throws open the storeroom of Krsna-prema and shares out that nectar to any person of any place without prejudice. (Click here for the full article)

Tribute to His Grace Nirguna Prabhu
by Kalavati devi dasi (JPS)
Posted November 17, 2007

I just received the news that His Grace Nirguna Prabhu has left his body in Sri Mayapur Dhama. Nirguna Prabhu was a wonderful, inspiring devotee who very single-mindedly preached Krsna Consciousness wherever he was and to whoever he was with.

In the late 1980's and early 1990's he was my sankirtan leader at New Panihati Dhama in Atlanta, and he served as a perfect example for neophytes such as myself. It didn't matter that at one point we had to go to Hartsfield International Airport at 5am just to reserve a space in the terminal to distribute books, as other non-profit organizations would compete for the same spaces. New Release
by Manjari dasi
Posted November 11, 2007

The new book: "Death Divine" describes real-life Krsna consciousness in-action at the most crucial time - death - a time when the external sufferings of the body are transcended by an internal joyous celebration in Krsna consciousness. Read how Krsna makes this arrangement for His devotee's final journey; the changes of heart and the outpourings of love as the dying devotee's heart increasingly overflows with love and surrender.

How to die fully absorbed in Krsna consciousness and attain the topmost spiritual destination? This question, the most essential of all questions, is of increasing concern for the devotees. (Click here for the full article)

Soldiers Observe Iraq Rathayatra

Originally the Rathayatra had been scheduled for January, but due to my moving to a different part of Iraq, we arranged for all preparations to be completed within two days. After some unexpected issues came to light from the authorities, everything was set to go.

From first light, people were waiting for the Lord's darshan. At around noon the Lord made His appearance, much to the pleasure of all assembled. The turnout was not as big as we had hoped for, but considering the circumstances I believe it was a success. (Click here for the full article)

We Had a Happy Diwali!

In the past, we have limited our advertisements for Diwali, fearing that as the colder weather forces everything indoors, and the temple capacity is 500, we shouldn't aspire for more attendees. This year, however, we had built an outdoor stage, the weather has been very nice (mid 60's during the day) and we had the idea to put out patio heaters on the verandah. Thus there were three places where more than 1,000 people could congregate: The downstairs gift store and buffet, the upstairs temple room, and the out door verandah with heaters and stage. By writing according to our realization we become more and more convinced and all doubts are destroyed.

Breaking Through the Shell: Psychoanalysis and Bhakti
by Narayani dasi
Posted November 26, 2007

When I considered writing on this topic, I thought to myself that no one will probably want to read it, and may even be indignant, and ask: "What do you think we are -- nut cases?" "Oh, yes!" would be my answer. "Every one of us is a nut case, in that we need to crack through a hardened shell to get at who we really are."

The most common answer to that would be: "I already know that -- a servant of the Lord!"... which implies, in analysis, a host of intrinsically profound and intensely exalted qualities, all of which are inherent in the soul, which is, so to speak, the nut itself.

All of this goes to prove the uselessness of empty clichés in the attempt of "breaking the shell," for that so-called argument is self-defeating.

Nevertheless, I still hear my objector, now with his indignation replaced by a air of untouchable sanctity: "Only the Lord can show me the way. I'm at His mercy."

That's indeed true, for: "In every millennium the Lord appears (Click here for the full article)

Ten Things That Make Sense to Me
by Name withheld by request
Posted November 17, 2007

  1. It is very difficult to make a creation, even for God, as is evidenced with our many problems. Most people feel a comforting spirit of God.

What makes sense is: God is doing the best He can with a difficult task.

  2. God is merciful, but not very informative. We can easily commune with God as the intelligent connecting spirit inside, and we do it all the time, as with daydreaming, meditating and even using imagination. For whatever reason, direct, practical, confirmable, objective communications with God, to the basic standard of reality that we all must live by, is not happening.
