100 Gather In Wales for Vaisnava Retreat

by Prabhupada.org
Posted November 24, 2005

Devotees, supporters and friends of the Hare Krishna movement spent an idyllic October weekend in retreat at Buckland Hall in Brecon's National Park. It was a weekend that gave lay supporters the opportunity to meet devotees in an informal setting and enabled established supporters to expand their knowledge of the Vedic philosophy. As a bonus it offered the opportunity for participation in some astonishing kirtans while enjoying splendid food and accommodation. Possibly the most probing ideas were put forward by Bhakti Vijnana Goswami. He talked fluently and convincingly on a range of subjects, but concentrated on the nature of divine service. He identified three motives for activity in the religious life: to ease the pain of a meaningless life, to seek knowledge of God or because you consider it your duty. Cultural Conquest ( a Book Sankirtana for the New Millenium )
by Bhakta Wallace Dorian
Posted November 23, 2005

I was walking down the street the other evening feeling somewhat frustrated because I had just read that a multi-million dollar production of "The Mahabharata" started shooting in India with Bollywood super-stars. It was going to be a very ambitious film with special effects done by Peter Jackson's team in New Zealand who were responsible for the hugely successful "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. In fact, this "Mahabharata" is also going to be distributed as a trilogy as well and I couldn't help but think how nice it would have been if some Hare Krishna devotees were doing it. Determination In Divine Love

by Nanda Sunu dasa
Posted November 15, 2005

Is it possible to find the Lord? This is an apt question during this month (Kartik). This month we celebrate Yasoda Mayi capturing Krishna with her pure love - a feat that even the greatest yogi, or most intellectual jnani spends many lifetimes endeavoring for, but is ultimately frustrated in. We read how determined Mother Yasoda was in catching Krishna, her chasing after Him was causing her to perspire, and when Krishna finally allowed her to catch hold of Him she had to endeavor so hard in trying to tie him up. It seems that the present child abuse case is being heralded as a great, revolutionary step -- as a religion dealing truthfully with its past. but was it not forced to do so out of sheer necessity? Are we naive enough to think this is the end of this abusive chapter? (Click here for the full article)

From Poop To Power - Straus Powers Dairy With Methane

MARSHALL, CA - Completing a 5 year process, Straus Family Creamery, California's cutting-edge organic dairy, created electricity today from its new methane digester. The digester captures naturally occurring gas from manure and converts it into electricity.

With this new system, Straus is expected to generate up to 600,000 kWh per year, saving about 6,000 dollars in monthly energy costs. This process will also eliminate methane, a natural by-product of manure. According to the 2003 U.S. Department of Energy Report on Greenhouse Gases, agricultural sources, primarily animal waste, account for approximately 3 percent of greenhouse gas emissions. It would be opportune for the Movement to schedule commemorative events, as well as a BTG devoted to the anniversary. Ideally, a publication should appear as early as possible in 2006 so presenters like myself might take advantage of the issue and make it available to college contacts as early as possible.
