"Theft" of ISKCON Members?
by Niscala dasi
Posted May 31, 2010

There have been many devotee discussions lately on the issue of diksa -- whether one should become initiated by Srila Prabhupada (ritvik), by one of his disciples (ISKCON and its affiliates), or by a vaisnava guru outside of ISKCON (such as in the Gaudiya Matha). Most of those discussions have centred around what group one should belong to, but it seems to me that more important than determining that for others, when it is a matter of faith it is vital to determine how we should conduct ourselves within and among those groups.

Srila Prabhupada told us: "Your love for me will be shown by how you cooperate to push on this Krsna consciousness movement." The Krsna consciousness movement includes all the vaisnava groups. Among and within these groups, dealings should be based on love and acceptance. Whether in ISKCON or outside of it, if one’s dealings with other groups and those within one’s group are friendly and respectful -- if possible, even loving and trusting -- it assures us of Krsna’s mercy. Making ISKCON Temples Eco-Friendly
by Nirguna dasi
Posted May 23, 2010

His Holiness Bhakti Rasamrita Swami (previously H. G.Devamrita Das) spoke this past month at the ICC meetings (a Conference of ISKCON leader about the need for ISKCON temples and projects, in India, to consider implementing environment friendly standards.

Maharaj feels that Nature, as much as everything else, belongs to Krishna. As devotees, we should try in every way to counter or at least not add to the present environmental degradation.

Maharaj has surmised his ideas for ISKCON temples to adopt in the paper posted below.

Making ISKCON Temples Eco-Friendly

As a well-known and world-wide spiritual institution with a large member of followers, ISKCON is aware of its responsibility to the environment. In pursuance of this responsibility, we wish to formulate strategies for a step-by-step progression in the level of eco-friendliness of our Temples and other projects in India, leading to the setting up of practical standards of compliance. The culmination of course, will be “Green Temples”. Participation or suggestions from temples and projects outside India are most welcome.

In considering eco-friendliness, the following would need to be considered:

Yoga and Meditation: Their Real Purpose and How to Get Started
by Stephen Knapp
Posted May 7, 2010

Yoga is a nonsectarian spiritual science that has been practiced and developed by the sages and rishis of India over thousands of years. The benefits of yoga are numerous. On the mental level it strengthens concentration, determination, and builds a stronger character that can more easily sustain various tensions in our lives for peace of mind. The assortment of asanas or postures also provide stronger health and keeps various diseases in check. They improve physical strength, endurance and flexibility. These are a few of the goals of yoga.

Its ultimate purpose, however, is to purify and raise our consciousness to a level in which we can directly perceive our real identity and the spiritual dimension. (Click here for the full article)

Setting the Record Straight
by Swami B.V. Tripurari
Posted May 30, 2010

I was recently alerted to these posts by two members of Iskcon, an active preacher in the household asrama and a member of the renounced order.

www.prabhupada.org/rama/?p=4475

www.prabhupada.org/rama/?p=4476

The posts appeared on a popular Iskcon blog entitled Vaisnava Blog Feeds. These posts were a step above many of the things that Iskcon members have written and said about Srila Sridhara Maharaja in the past, in that they acknowledged Prabhupada’s respect and affection for Srila Sridhara Maharaja. The description of the final meeting of Srila Sridhara Maharaja and Srila Prabhupada was for the most part innocuous, although Hari Sauri’s penchant for assuming that he can read people’s minds and an annoying lapse in Vaisnava etiquette in his frequent references to Srila Sridhara Maharaja, a highly respected sannyasi and founder-acarya, as “Sridhara” did sully the description.

Unfortunately, the first post takes a sharp turn for the worse (Click here for the full article)

Milk From Protected Cows for Radha Kalachandji
by Hare Krsna dasi
Posted May 25, 2010

What can I say about the well-meaning attempts of devotees at the Dallas Temple to comfort the hearts of thousands of Gita-nagari devotees of Sri Sri (chota) Radha Kalachandji? They are no-doubt kind hearted, but our eternal home is Gita-nagari, no matter where in the world we may be. And that eternal home has sweet Radha Kalachandji on the altar, listening to the melodies of the robins and peacocks during the morning, and enjoying the refreshing breezes and the sounds of the big bull frogs at night.

That is a home where farmers come in with staw covered shirts to pay their thankful obeisances during the heat of the midday. And that is a home where the cows with softly tinkling bells are ever joyful, to provide milk for the Deities, day after day. When I lived at Gita-nagari, every ekadasi Lord Kalachandji had His beautiful body smeared with ghee made from butter from our protected cows, making Him impossibly more handsome. And every mangala artotik tray had burfi, sweet rice, kheer & rabri and butter balls, all from our protected cows. (Click here for the full article)

Restoration of Srila Prabhupada’s Palace
by NV Communications
Posted May 23, 2010

“The Festival of Inspiration inspires devotees to do amazing things!” said Nityodita dasa, President of New Vrindaban Community Board of Directors. “The Palace restoration project actually began when Ramesvara Prabhu attended the Festival of Inspiration in 2009.”

Ramesvara Prabhu went for darshan of Srila Prabhupada and took notice of the serious deterioration on the Palace exterior. He could see that although devotees have been working on the Palace one section at a time, there was no comprehensive restoration being done.

Ramesvara, who currently specializes as a building restoration project manager in Manhattan immediately approached Malati devi dasi, one of the GBCs for New Vrindaban. Malati and Nityodita then spoke with Ramesvara together, and asked him to make recommendations for a comprehensive restoration of the entire Palace. (Click here for the full article)

Bhagvat Katha Saptah in Phoenix
by Swarup ji

Dr Prayag Narayan Misra: Phoenix, Arizona
May 9,2010

Ram Swarup Shastri (Krishna Swarup Das), initiated in 1992 in Mayapur, West Bengal and later second initiation in 1999 in Alachua, Florida - a disciple of Hrdayanand Goswami Maharaj- concluded a weeklong Srimad Bhagvad Katha in Hindi language in Phoenix, Arizona.

The purposes of conducting Bhagvat katha are to share love of Krishna, and remind the importance of accepting a bonafide teacher (guru) in disciplic succession and gloryfying the chanting of holy names.

In early childhood, Krishna Swaroop das developed the taste of Bhagvat Katha from his father Sri Teerth Swaroop Upadhyay in Nepal. He had early education in Assam, India and graduated from Lal Bahadur Shastri Sanskrit University in New Delhi in 1989 with a degree Shastri in Sanskrit literature. Help Needed in England
by ISKCON Prison Ministry
Posted May 17, 2010

Recently I have received a few letters from a couple women inmates from England. I am looking for a devotee(s) to correspond with them and send them Prabhupada’s books. Sending books from USA is not economically sound.

These ladies are from a Buddhist background but are interested in learning about Krsna consciousness. One of them writes, “Krsna consciousness could be the end of my search.”

As you all know, helping others on their journey back to Godhead is the greatest pleasure one can have; sharing one’s realizations deepens and establishes them firmly in our heart. Don’t miss this opportunity!

Please contact Bhakti-lata if you are interested to correspond with one or these ladies, (Click here for the full article)

A Festival of Red Flags
by Dhira Govinda dasa
Posted May 14, 2010

I write this as a response to various indications that constitute cause for concern about the protection of children and youth in ISKCON Mayapur. Primarily what I provide here is a report that I wrote and issued in April, 1999, entitled Report on the Bhaktivedanta Gurukula Village. More than eleven years later I present this report again because it seems that persons in key roles with respect to child protection are unaware, or in some instances perhaps acting as if unaware, of the content and substance therein.

On May 3rd, 2010, I received a letter from Mahavisnupriya prabhu. Dating back to the mid-1990s I served with Mahavisnupriya on ISKCON-related child protection cases, and my understanding is that she assists and supports Campakalata prabhu, the current director of the ISKCON Child Protection Office. Mahavisnupriya forwarded to me a letter from Campakalata, requesting information about the history of a series of child maltreatment cases in Mayapur, which she referred to as “…the 1991 adolescent cases in Mayapur….” Campakalata indicated that the head of the child protection team in Mayapur considered that what happened in “…the 1991 adolescent cases in Mayapur….” was “…merely a play – game and not a CPT issue”. Please accept my humble obeisances. My name is Kevin Bello. I am 21 years old. I love culture, religion, languages and philosophy, as well as general neatness. I have practiced Krishna consciousness, Gaudiya Vaishnava dharma for only 2 years, so I am still very neophyte. Remembering Amekhala Devi Dasi
by Archananda das
Posted May 5, 2010

It came as a shock here in the foothills of Badger and Three Rivers, California to hear of our dear sisters departure from this world, I have known Amekhala from back in our home town of Manchester UK before we were devotees, when she was known as Anne. We would visit Bury Place and Bhaktivedanta Manor, where we lived for many years. She was a instant devotee, she always had a sunny disposition and was one of the kindest and most honest persons I have ever known. She was a wonderful mother, devotee and friend, always serving the Lord and his servants, a ready smile and a open equal kindness to all. It is hard to really describe her deep qualities except to say,...what you saw is what you got. She was a devotee from the very beginning and a true mentor to all young aspiring bhaktas. She will be missed but will always live in our hearts.

Amekhala, Departure of a Devotee
by Subhangi devi dasi
Posted May 30, 2010

I first met Amekhala when I was pregnant with my daughter Lila in 1990. I took a side trip to England to avoid Indian summer and meet my Jordy relatives. I was really struck by how nice the English matajis were. I think they were the nicest and closest knit family of devotees I had ever met. A few really stood out and touched my heart. Amekhala was one of them, even though I only spoke to her briefly on that occasion, I never forgot her. She was pushing her son Vrinny in a pusher. She was not only inwardly beautiful, but she was so beautiful to look at as well. Blond with flushed cheeks and a beautiful smile. Very innocent looking, english rose. She had the sweetest and most sincere disposition. You felt she really cared about you and was deeply interested in anything you had to say. Almost all of her conversations were focused on Srila Prabhupad, or ventured back to the subject of Srila Prabhupad and his teachings. She obviously loved him deeply. This past weekend, 45 administrators from 40 Hare Krishna centers met in New Vrindaban for the semi-annual North America Leadership Conference for the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). Ali Krishna devi dasi of Gainesville, Fla., is one of the new young faces in ISKCON leadership. The Buffalo native joined ISKCON in 2006 in New Vrindaban, and lived in the community for nearly one year. “I was 25 years old at the time, and I wasn’t satisfied with my life,” said Ali Krishna. “Although I had lived in agricultural communities before, I had never lived in a God-centered community. Japa Retreat in Italy
by Hari Kirtana Das
Posted May 21, 2010

I am happy to inform you about the upcoming Japa Retreat being held in Villa Vrindavana, this coming July. I am also excited because this will be the first Japa Retreat in Italy.

The Japa Retreat is a four day total immersion in your relationship with the holy name. It is a powerful way to make major improvements to your chanting and increase your taste for the holy name. The Japa Retreat is designed to take your chanting to a whole new level and thus strengthen and inspire your Krishna consciousness in new and profound ways.

Why a Japa Retreat?

The Japa Retreat was developed by His Holiness Sacinandana Swami to help devotees go deeper into their chanting--and thus deeper into their relationship with Krishna. Seeing how easy it is to take our chanting for granted, Maharaja saw the need to create an ideal environment for devotees to get the most out of their chanting, to overcome bad habits, and to begin to deeply relish the holy names in ways that would have a transforming effect on them. A Poem for Amekhala Prabhu
by Ananta Purusottama das
Posted May 19, 2010

The purest love in this world is from a mother
Something which cannot be done by any other
Since our birth they just selflessly serve
We can’t repay, only love we can preserve

Such a patient mother, her sons testified
Patiently waiting, always by their side
Correcting with love, never with fear
That is no doubt what made her so dear

Amekhala cared so much for others
Acting like one of our seven mothers
She loved to love, never one to hate
Another wonderful motherly trait

The devotee community was her mission
It seems that she had quite a big vision
Like Prabhupada, build a house for all to live
Trying to help us, always able to give

For me, I always liked to take her advice (Click here for the full article)

My Journey With Amekhala Devi

Amekhala prabhu in Rishikesh in 2005

How can one really express their short and special journey travelling with Amekhala prabhu during her final months on the planet, the last and most important journey of her lifetime, the final test?

What a privilege it has been for me to have offered a little service to you in your final months of this illusory life. The pain of losing you has penetrated many hearts. I can not tell you the ache I have in my heart from your departure, and the emptiness I feel, yet I know you are dancing with Krishna and that the Lord called you home.

I remember the first time I met you, after your chemotherapy began in the hospital. The pain was excruciating. I remember the painful look you had in your eyes, the suffering state you were in. You were dehydrated, had been so severely sick for days, the look in your eyes. So much pain. (Click here for the full article)

We In Dallas -where Chota Kalachandji was originally from- feel They have returned home. We know it must be very hard for the Gita Nagari devotes to be separated from Chota Kalachandji, so you will be glad to know that They were welcomed to Dallas in a grand manner including an abhiseka and a big ecstatic festival. They must have been happy because They reciprocated by giving us an ecstatic kirtan, prasadam and bhajans. They were placed back on the altar at the feet of Sri Sri Radha Kalachandji. You are welcome to see pictures of the them on our website-www.krishna.com/node/1067 so devotees need not be worried. Any devotees from Gita Nagari who miss them are welcome to come to Dallas and visit. Free Book: "Beyond Birth and Death"
by Aprakrita Dasa

Startling evidence of the soul's incredible journey after death. An increasing number of people believe in reincarnation. Reincarnation means leaving this body and accepting a new one, over and over again . But reincarnation does not have to remain an eternal reality. This powerful book will give you knowledge to help you break the cycle of reincarnation.

The very first step in self-realization is realizing one's identity as separate from the body. "I am not this body but am spirit soul" is an essential realization for anyone who wants to transcend death and enter into the spiritual world beyond. It is not simply a matter of saying "I am not this body," but of actually realizing it. This is not as simple as it may seem at first. (Click here for the full article)

Choosing an ISKCON Guru Seminar
by Nrsimhananda das
Posted May 3, 2010

Iskcon has developed its own methodologies of helping an aspiring disciple determine his/her personal guru within its society. No where is that process more developed than in Iskcon U.K., and a yearly seminar at Bhaktivedanta Manor is offered to students interested in finding an Iskcon guru for themselves. Veteran devotees Kripamoya, Sruti Dharma, and Sitaram das' guide a two hour seminar (2009) for a room full of inquisitive seekers. There is much "teacher/student" interaction, questions, etc. Though the presenters do not pretend to represent "official" Iskcon positions, the information offered is mostly standardized throughout the Iskcon "world." Informative, provocative, challenging guidance.

Hold on to your hearts, folks, because they are just about to get smashed to smithereens. I heard that Sri Sri Radha Kalachandji are leaving Gita-nagari. I'm sure you have all heard about an unreliable bumble bee who is the servant of an unreliable Master. Well, you are just about to get a taste of it.
