Weekly Hare Krishna TV show

In the late 1800's Bhaktivinode Thakura sent a treatise about Bhakti yoga/Krishna consciousness to London. It was forwarded to Mcgill University in Canada. This was Bhaktivinode's desire-to tell the English speaking people of the world about Krishna consciousness. He initiated this idea and Srila Prabhupada at the age of 69 decided to leave Vrindavin and go to New York and fulfil the desire of the previous acharyas to make available to the English speaking countries the science of Krishna consciousness that had been locked up in the Sanskrit language. Excerpts from Prahlada Maharaja's Nrsimha Kavaca
Nrsimha Caturdasi -- May 14, 2003

One should meditate on Lord Nrsimha, Lord of the universe, seated upon a golden throne.

His mouth is wide open, He has three eyes, and He is as radiant as the autumn moon. He is embraced by Laksmidevi on his left side, and His form is the shelter of all opulences, both material and spiritual.

The Lord has four arms, and His limbs are very soft. He is decorated with golden earrings. His chest is resplendent like the lotus flower, and His arms are decorated with jewel-studded ornaments.

He is dressed in a spotless yellow garment, which exactly resembles molten gold. He is the original cause of existence, beyond the mundane sphere, for the great demigods headed by Indra. He appears bedecked with rubies which are blazingly effulgent.

His two feet are very attractive, and He is armed with various weapons such as the conch, disc, etc. Garuda joyfully offers prayers with great reverence.

Sastric Advisory Committee refutes PL article
Posted May 16, 2003

ABSTRACT: The GBC's Sastric Advisory Council thanks Dhira Govinda das for his contributions to ISKCON, but objects to his booklet "Srila Prabhupada: The Prominent Link" because it glosses over the distinction between diksa- and siksa-guru, redefines "diksa" and deprecates the initiating guru. While acknowledging "valid points and suggestions," the SAC says the booklet "oversteps the bounds of guru, sadhu, and sastra" and contains errors of logic. The SAC cites Srila Jiva Goswami and Srila Sanatan Goswami to support its conclusions that diksa is an essential formal step to joining the parampara, and that the diksa guru must be properly respected.

Please Stop Misusing Srila Prabhupada's Quotes
by Amara dasa
Posted May 17, 2003

I have been collecting quotes from His Divine Grace that are commonly misused to discriminate against women and minorities. These quotes concern relative social and bodily issues that have nothing to do with the spiritual nature of the soul. They are frequently taken completely out of context and delivered in a fashion that is both mean-spirited and ill motivated. The result has been that many sincere people and prospective devotees are completely turned off to the Krsna consciousness movement and given a poor impression of Srila Prabhupada. As society continues to evolve in a way that accepts diversity, minimizes bodily distinctions and rejects bigotry, we must correspondingly present Vaishnava culture as equal-visioned and all embracing. We must also present Srila Prabhupada as the loving and compassionate person that his own life exemplifiedsomeone who befriended and treated all living beings equally as spiritual parts and parcels of God. When we instead misuse his quotes and scriptures to exclude, oppress and demonize other groups of people, I think it is fair to say that we have veered off the intended course and are endangering our own spiritual foundation. A Call for Women's Ashrams

"All of you please perceive everything of this world as ingredients for serving Krsna; everything of this world is actually meant for Krsna's service. Please see the whole race of women as beloved consorts of Krsna, and help them always to engage themselves in the service of Krsna. Please do not consider them as objects for your sense enjoyment. They are to be enjoyed by Krsna; they are never to be enjoyed by the living entities.

Some Prasada for thought for the Prominent Link
by Devaki Nandana das
Posted May 10, 2003

Hare Krishna. I would just like to address a common misconception which I was reminded of when reading Dhira Govinda Prabhu's book the prominent link. Ambarisa prabhu mentioned in the book something to the extent that after 1977 the problems in ISKCON seemed worse. I don't know his exact intention, but many believe that it is due in large part to the current system of Guru's. Anyway, I've heard enough horror stories of the so called "good old days " to know that there were as many problems when Srila Prabhupada was on the planet if not more than there are today. All the rifts, abuse, tyrannical managers, fights etc. that were going on in those pre 1977 days has to be taken into consideration. In many ways the movenment is much healthier and safer than back then. I'm glad that I joined in 1990 after so much immature garbage had already been thrown out. Sure there were so many successes and amazing things that happened but generally all we hear are the good stories. It's human nature to remember the good and forget the bad. Usually there is more bad than good also in the material world. Anyway. I just wanted to address a common misconception that I see recurring and in an objective way I'd like to see some clearer thinking amongst the leaders of our society and it's critics. That was one of the goals of the Prominent Link after all. I don't have any particular side in any of the issues presented in the Prominent Link, but would appreciate it if devotees wouldn't be so naive about the so called "Good old days".

Your servant,
Devaki Nandana Dasa.

Sri Gadadhara Pandit appearance day in Mayapur
by Tusti Mohan Krsna dasa

Today we celebrated the appearance day of Sri Gadadhara Pandit in Sri Mayapur Chandrodaya Mandir, in the morning Bhagavatam class HG Jananivas Prabhu delivered a lecture about the glories, qualities and tolerance of Sri Gadadhara Pandit who is the incarnation of Srimate Radharani and how attached was to Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu. Sri Gadadhara pandit represents the Bhakti Shakti in the Panca Tattva. One time HH Jayapataka Swami was talking about Gadadhara Pandit and he said that "Gadadhara Pandit is the most confidential form of Srimate Radhika since in this incarnation She takes a male body to always be in association with Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu known that he would take sanyasa, and wanted to be in association with in his pastimes. At 11:30 the abhisheka started with senior devotees performing all the rituals to the deity offering all the ingredients according to the sastras in a small altar decorated with flowers in front of the Panca Tattva altar while hundreds of devotees were chanting for the pleasure of Sri Gadadhara, after there was distribution of caranmrta and devotees remained in the temple until after the altar was again opened to see the Deity after been dressed, please see pics in our websites:
