Each individual diorama sports a light, signifying the soul, and the light is synchronized between each diorama, illustrating the soul's migration.

The display can be purchased either with a vehicle trailer or without. The inside dimensions of the trailer are 16 ft. long (4.88m) and 80 inches (2.03m) wide. A winch is affixed to the trailer so that the diorama can be pulled into it. (Click here for the full article)

Open Letter to ISKCON Sannyasa Ministry
by Amara das
Posted March 25, 2012

On a section of the ISKCON Sannyasa Application Form entitled "Other Things The Sannyasa Committee Should Know" it is stated: "Please list other things that you think the Sannyasa Committee should know, such as [having] a different sexual orientation than what is considered normal." I humbly request you to consider removing this part of the form for the following reasons:

  1. ISKCON has no official policy protecting LGBT members from discrimination and exclusion; thus, there is great potential for abuse by requesting such information on any application form within ISKCON.
  2. Srila Prabhupada's own example was to accept any qualified candidate regardless of bodily differences or distinctions, including those with different sexual orientations.
  3. The statement itself is completely subjective and would only be answered if the candidate thinks the committee should know about his or her sexual orientation.

Food Yoga - New Book
by Priyavrata Das
Posted March 20, 2012

I recently conducted workshops on FOOD YOGA in Australia, Taiwan, China and Philippines. The workshops are based on my new book, FOOD YOGA - Nourishing the Soul.

This is a summary of the book:

FOOD YOGA - Nourishing the Soul is a completely new approach to holistic living. Until now, books on healthy living and nutrition have focused on the mechanics of health and happiness, and in doing so, have promoted philosophies and plans that in one way or another have alienated vast numbers of people. As a result, despite volumes of literature and research there is no consensus on what diet or mode of living is best. What they have all failed to identify is one underlying truth that connects us all and from which all health plans can be reconciled and/or elevated to their ultimate stature. That truth is: our constitutional nature is spirit and we are all spiritually equal. Any healthy living program therefore needs to address the “nutritional” needs of body, mind and spirit. Learn Bhagavad-Gita Online in 2 Months
by BhaktiLife.org
Posted March 10, 2012

Two of Srila Prabhupada's initiated disciples, Dhruva Maharaja dasa and Samapriya dasi -- who have been following his teachings for more than 40 years -- are conducting a new and revised Bhagavad-gita As It Is eCourse from April 2 - June 3, 2012. This eCourse is not only an academic study of the text, but will also help participants develop strong daily spiritual practices. Participants study from their own computers, on their own time schedules, but network with others in the eCourse and teachers via the internet.

In the beginning of Bhagavad-gita Lord Krsna's friend and disciple Arjuna refused to fight in the Battle of Kuruksetra, but after hearing Lord Krsna's instructions he was transformed and agreed to participate in the Lord's divine plan. Similarly, the instructions of Bhagavad-gita are meant to transform us -- to elevate us to the transcendental platform. There is no other book which benefits mankind more than these instructions personally spoken by the Supreme Personality of Godhead. (Click here for the full article)

Shelter for Sarvabhavana Dasa
by Radhanatha Swami, Niranjana Maharaja, Bhaktivijnana Maharaja, Kavicandra Swami, Malati devi dasi, Urmila devi dasi, Acutya Priya dasa
Posted March 3, 2012

It’s not often that we get an opportunity to do deeply satisfying service for a devotee who directly sacrificed his own body for the sankirtana movement. In the past few weeks, we have raised the funds—thank you!—for medical treatment for his most pressing difficulties. Please join us in donating to provide a very literal shelter for him and his family—a simple home that will allow them the peace for sadhana and preaching.

You are probably already familiar with Sarvabhavana dasa, one of the heroes of the book “Salted Bread.” For the so-called “crime” of distributing books in the former Soviet bloc, he was imprisoned and repeatedly beaten severely. The results? KGB agents knocked out several teeth, and there was permanent damage to the ones he kept, both due to being beaten and the poor diet in Soviet prisons and labor camps. A prison guard deprived him (Click here for the full article)

Bhakta Kapila Das Passes Away
by Devala das (ISKCON Toronto)
Posted March 27, 2012

We wish to inform all devotees, especially those who have served or will serve the Vancouver temple, of the sad departure of Kapila das about three weeks ago there. He had been suffering from cancer for more than three months.

A lot can be written about this dedicated devotee. But firstly, I met Kapila das (then Keith) when I saw him walking into the temple property sometime around 1985. At that time, he was around 40. He quickly joined the fold and started to practise devotional service. There was no turning back to material life, nor did he exhibit desires to do so. Later he received formal initiation and was given the name Kapila das.

At the outset, Kapila das gave me the impression of a matured man, and he proved that to me, especailly with his tolerance. I once offended him on the travelling road "sankeertan" painting business (and later apologised), I re-organised his room without his permission, (Click here for the full article)

“May the Supreme Personality of Godhead in the form of Lord Sri Caitanya bestow His causeless mercy upon us. His smiling glance at once drives away all the bereavements of the world, and His very words enliven the auspicious creepers of devotion by expanding their leaves. Taking shelter of His lotus feet invokes transcendental love of God at once.” (Cc. Adi 3.63)

ISKCON Youth Fund - Genuine Care and Loving Support
Posted March 17, 2012

Disparaging statements were recently published on the Internet by ill informed individuals regarding the ISKCON Chapter 11 Youth Fund. The gist of the malicious falsity is that in order to punish the original Texas Gurukuli plaintiffs and avoid the payment of millions of dollars to those plaintiffs, the North American GBC and the SSPT formulated a strategy to illegally increase the number of Gurukuli claimants worldwide with the result that ISKCON filed for Chapter 11 protection and created a Reorganization Plan in US Bankruptcy Court.

As a member of the ISKCON legal team which defended against the Texas lawsuit and as Special Master appointed by the Bankruptcy Court to evaluate the claims and oversee distribution of the $9.5 million dollar Youth Fund, it is clear that these spurious allegations are far removed from both an understanding of the legal mechanics involved as well as the actual motivation of ISKCON leadership. Embracing Unity in Diversity: Early Notes Toward a Rhetoric of Consciousness
by Babhru das
Posted March 3, 2012

When I was teaching in gurukulas, the students would occasionally find out that another child didn't like one sort of food or another and would tease them: “Eww—you don't like mangoes? That means you don't like Prabhupada and Krishna!” These eight- or nine-year-olds were probably joking, or half joking, to the extent that kids are capable. But when adults insist in the rudest language that other devotees who don't share their opinions on one detail or another regarding devotional practice or association are faithless, or even demons, they are not joking. And it's not funny.

Rather, they are simply demonstrating a narrow-minded attitude and cramped thinking discouraged by Srila Prabhupada himself. Unfortunately, we see a great deal of such narrow-mindedness in discussions among devotees over the course of our association, both face to face and in online discourse. I have found it to be perhaps the most discouraging, (Click here for the full article)

Pro-Biotic Yogurt Water
by Victor G Epand
Posted March 25, 2012

  • 2 heaping teaspoons 100% plain, natural yogurt (no sugar, no additives)
  • 2 Liters filtered / bottled water

  1. Combine 2 heaping teaspoons of 100% plain, natural yogurt (no sugar, no additives) into 2 Liters of filtered / bottled water. DO NOT STIR OR SHAKE. It is very important that the yogurt remain clumped and fall to the bottom without mixing. Be careful not to shake or stir the mixture after dropping the yogurt in. The best result is always obtained by using a firm, solid, natural yogurt that falls in a clump to the bottom of the water. After this, the water should not be shaken or stirred until the very end when it is ready to offer. If your yogurt is of a soft consistency, or if it gets shaken by accident, then you must reduce the fermenting time from 3 days to 1 or 2 days.
  2. Place the yogurt-water in a safe spot where it won't be disturbed and leave it for 3 days. With a good, firm, plain, natural yogurt, the result is best at about 3 days. The actual length of time can vary depending on the temperature, quality of water, and yogurt.
  3. Make sure that the yogurt-water is not disturbed during the 3 days.

Child Protection Website
by Gaurav Mittal
Posted March 3, 2012

In early 2000s, I proposed to develop an official child protection website to provide information about adjudicated and ongoing child abuse cases. I discussed this idea with Tamohara Das (CPO Director), Romapada Swami, Hanumat-presak Swami and other leaders but they did not show any interest.

ISKCON is a volunteer-based organization. Most people work for free as service to Krishna. Even if some people are paid for services, then the pay is quite minimal. In these conditions it is difficult to enforce a systematic child protection program. ISKCON cannot act as police and cannot stop offenders to visit temples, give lectures or lead kirtans. Even if CPO bans an offender from ISKCON, the CPO does not have power and resources to implement their decision in all temples. But CPO can provide education and information to all ISKCON members so that the members have the opportunity to protect themselves and people around them.

There should be an official website providing information about offenders like the US's sex offender directory. Temples and centers should provide this website to all members so that concerned members are aware of offenders and CPO investigations. (Click here for the full article)
