Custom Deity Outfits
by Bhaktin Praveen
Posted March 29, 2007

On the inspiration and support of many devotees I have decided to sell custom made Deity outfits. My home Deities, Sri-Sri Radha Madana-Mohana, are 10 inches tall and for outfits like the one shown here I charge $18 (not including shipping and handling). However, prices can vary due to Deity, cost of materials, etc. I can also work with any designs you may have or any special modifications that need to be made to the dress. Kazakhstan: Stalled Hare Krishna Demolitions to Take Place "In Next Five Days"

submitted by Richard Wyndham, by Felix Corley, Forum 18 News Service
Posted March 24, 2007

Members of Kazakhstan's embattled Hare Krishna commune, where court executors are about to demolish a further five Hare Krishna-owned homes, have told Forum 18 News Service that they vehemently reject court denials that the decision was taken in secret. "The five devotees only found out about the court-ordered demolition yesterday [19 March] although the court says the decision was taken back on 18 January," Maksim Varfolomeyev complained to Forum 18, adding the comment that "the actions of the Karasai District Administration defy due legal process." The demolitions were stopped at the last minute today by a mysterious man in a black Mercedes car, but the Hare Krishna community has heard they will go ahead "in the next five days". "We don't know who the man was or where he came from," Varfomoleyev explained, "but when he told the men to halt the demolition they did so, making us think he must have been an official." Legal cases have also begun over six more Hare Krishna-owned homes. Officials have refused to discuss the Commune's problems with Forum 18. (Click here for the full article)

Devotees Respond to Climate Change
by Niscala dasi
Posted March 20, 2007

Since the debut of Al Gore's film An Inconvenient Truth the urgency of the state of the environment has moved up in collective public consciousness. The prospect of the world's major cities becoming the future ocean bed, and of severe natural disasters becoming a regular occurrence --along with unanimous consensus among the scientific community that this is certainty, not merely a probability -- altogether have made the issue vital when we consider the future of our kids.

"Okay," I hear you say, "there are numerous forums about the environment. Go post your article there. This one is about Krsna consciousness."

Actually, the two are inextricable. (Click here for the full article)

Overlook Misgivings

In response to Jivalamukhi and Bhaktin Olivia's uplifting 'Request for Quotes' to support beautiful Vaishnava relationships, posted on 7th March 2007, here is one I recently came across, addressed to Brahmananda prabhu:

"It is very nice to learn that both you and Satsvarupa have highly praised Tamala Krishna. Similarly, Tamala Krishna has also highly praised you and Satsvarupa. This attitude should be maintained amongst your Godbrothers. That will elevate us more and more to the top of devotional service. This is called Vaikuntha attitude. (Click here for the full article)

Srila Prabhupada Spoke to Me in a Dream
by Yadunandana Pada Dasa
Posted March 14, 2007

As you all know, around 3 months ago I published an article requesting that someone take over administering the already established fundraising and fund distribution of the MVT Vrndavan Hospice & Infirmary. This is a very small task that requires only a few hours per month for one to three people each month. I have been grappling with 'how' to pass this on because of personal issues and have not been able to come up with a solid plan on my own for the same personal reasons. After some prayer and introspection on the matter, I had a dream where Srila Prabhupada suggested to me that the answer had been in front of me all along. "This Seva," he said," rightfully belongs to those who care. The right heirs of this project," he continued," should be the Vaisnavas Care group and my Giriraja Swami and his disciples." Beware of the 3 Modes
by Sridhar Raman
Posted March 13, 2007

Dvarakadhisa das (Click Here) and Anonymous prabhu (Click Here) have raised a very important point in their postings. I want to re-emphasize that point - how our mind adulterates Krishna consciousness (the process), and Krishna conception (the supreme Object). When we think that God is going to put us in a pigeon's body for holding sexual desires notwithstanding all our honest attempts at making spiritual progress we are building a totally distorted concept of God and Bhakti in our minds that would most certainly destroy our spiritual growth. The bottom-line is this - all knowledge we assimilate, including those pertaining to bhakti, is filtered and tainted by the modes of material nature. The modes of nature we have acquired are a result of millions of years of conditioning over several lifetimes. (Click here for the full article)

Spiritual Health Requires Honesty
by Dvarakadhisa das
Posted March 12, 2007

Why is God presented in such poor way?

Sometimes certain sights, or smells, or sounds will bring you back to a previous time in your life in very vivid detail.

Today, I woke up with a very pleasant breeze blowing through my bedroom. As I opened my eyes, I saw my favorite picture of Krishna playing his flute near a stream in the forest of Vrindavan. This breeze, along with the beautiful painting of Krishna, and my consciousness still flirting with the world of dreams, triggered my memory of when I first began to absorb myself in Srila Prabhupada's books. This morning, in contrast to the depression, dull-headedness, empty hearted hopelessness and fatigue that I've been passing my time in, I was feeling great joy and contentment. I felt as though Krishna was in my house with me. (Click here for the full article)

Time to Get Real
by name withheld by request
Posted March 11, 2007

The Guru system is totally outdated and probably only worked well when life was simpler and people did not get proper care in general in life, so they could be taken care of by their Guru at least to that previous old time sub-standard of living they maintained while diving wholeheartedly into their Bhakti Yoga practice. This is not longer a valid situation as modern society has uncovered so many human needs that simply went unfulfilled in the past.

I know of no ISKCON Guru that is truly looking out for their disciples up to the modern standard. There is not even a universal health care program for aging devotees, many of whom are suffering from the years of all cooked, fries and sugar diet as well as Guru's neglect of the bodily and psychological health of their disciples. Farming for the Future escapes from the grocery store to tromp through the fields with a diverse group of forward-thinking yeomen, illuminating the subtler and oft-forgotten aspects of the vital commodity we call food.

The Daanurdhara Scandal

Posted March 5, 2007

In response the posting by Hare Krsna dasi entitled, The Danurdhara Scandal: "What Decisive Actions Were Taken?" the answer is that no action was taken and none is likely to be taken.

The Svami pretends that he has resigned from ISKCON in order to avoid the heat of scrutiny. But ask the devotees in Tel-Aviv, Israel and they will be shocked to hear this. The wife of the temple president there and other fanatic disciples regularly invite Dhanurdara Svami and organize preaching programs for him. On his last visit he gave daily lectures and for the Sabbath Festival (Sunday Feast) the temple was closed and everyone invited to the President's home for a program in honor of the Svami. Photos of the Svami are pinned on the temple bulletin board and there is active recruiting done on his behalf. (Click here for the full article)

The Passing of Samba Das

On Saturday, March 24, 2007 Samba das passed away in London, England.

Samba had arrived from Sri Dhama Mayapura one week earlier. He was in very good spirits and making plans to spend more time in the holy Dhama. A couple of days after his arrival, Samba felt ill and was taken to hospital where he remained until he gloriously passed away. We would like to share this beautiful event with the assembly of devotees.

During the day of Saturday, devotees visited Samba who was apparently unconscious and breathing with the help of a ventilator. Around 6:00 p.m., four or five devotees joined others who were already visiting Samba. (Click here for the full article)

I have only my own experiences and thoughts to offer.

I have been studying Krishna Consciousness via ISKCON and some of its devotees for about twenty years. I plan on taking initiation with Bhaktimarga Swami. Most of you know him as the Sannyasi who walks across Canada. I am from Ontario, Canada but am presently residing in British Columbia.

I have had many Gurus over the years who helped me to grow as a person. My first were probably my parents and some of my public school teachers. (Click here for the full article)

Transportation Help Needed
by Rishabhdeva das
Posted March 20, 2007

The Denver temple has two tables of teakwood - a table for Tulasi devi and another for Prabhupada's guru puja, made in India and lying now in Florida. The temple needs this urgently for its daily worsip and mornning program. We were wondering if there were some devotees travelling from Florida to Denver, who would be willing to bring these tables. These tables will fit in the back of a van.

This will be a great service to Sri Sri Radha Govinda and Srila Prabhupada, as the temple could save a good amount of laxmi in transportation costs if someobody helps out with this.

I request devotees who may be willing to help out to please contact me by mail or by telephone at 720-941-2690. I can give the exact size, weight and other details.

On the Evil of Merging
by Niscala dasi
Posted March 10, 2007

The basis of the division of service in varnasrama is that which powers the individual - his/her psycho-physical make up. Thus it separates spiritual from material power, and productive from physical power. The latter separation is necessary for good business management, for it is obviously a waste of talent for an architect to be laying bricks, and an over-expectation for a brick-layer to be trying to design buildings.

What is not so clear (the resolution of which is more pertinent to us) is why the ksatriya and the brahmana class must separate. Surely a spiritually minded ksatriya could do both? (Click here for the full article)

We are writing to make you aware of the unfortunate situation involving Baladeva dasa and his wife, Bhaktin Christina, that is unfolding here in the Greater Alachua community, and to appeal to all of you for your help.

Bala (Peruvian Baladeva Torres) is a Mayapura gurukuli. He did service for the Alachua Temple and, in addition, is known throughout North America for his many years of faithfully assisting Rtadhvaja Swami with the annual "summer trip" - taking dozens of devotee boys to Ratha-yatras all over the continent and helping with the service of setting up and breaking down of the Festival of India.

Recently, Bala's wife Christina, age 23, who, as of this writing is 6 1/2 months pregnant with a baby daughter, was diagnosed to be in the advanced stages (Stage 4) of cervical cancer, which has spread to her ovaries, bladder, kidneys and left lung. (Click here for the full article)

Questions for the GBC
by Author's name withheld
Posted March 1, 2007

  1. Why are sanyasis allowed to remain sanyasis if they are accused of child abuse in any form? It's in the best interest of their spiritual lives and others that they remain humble devotees by not accepting any form of external position such as sanyasis. Pure Devotional service is beyond these designations. GBC needs to set an example of impartiality. Well wishers and friends of such accused devotees should not be allowed to participate in such decision making causing conflict of personal interest.

  2. Why are sanyasis like Satswarup Das allowed to remain a sanyasi after his association with a woman setting a wrong precedent for future sanyasis. Why cant he remain a humble brahmacari and carry on his spiritual life. Where is a standard policy from the GBC for such fall downs of sanyasis ? If there is, then it should be discussed through a debate. Consider Lord Caitanya and chota Hari Das pastime.

Many Are Qualified to Initiate
by Gaursundar das (Denver, Colo.)

ISKCON seems to operate within the realms of inequality. As a devotee since 1979, I find it disconcerting that the GBC is going against guru, shastra and sadhu concerning recognition as a leader in Srila Prabhupada's movement.

Who came up with the rule that you had to be voted into the sannyasa ashram? This is between the guru and his or her disciple. Such a rule is directly against shastra.

For the sincere disciples of Srila Prabhupada, I salute you, but why are only direct initiates of Srila Prabhupada allowed to initiate devotees into spiritual life? (Click here for the full article)

This is being written externally as a reply to the article "Time to Get Real" by an anonymous author. Internally, however, it is not meant to try and convince the author - as I suspect due to his or her attitude that this is impossible - rather it is meant to help those whose faith might be damaged in reading the article. I will humbly try to mark each point made, and reply with my own understanding of such things, showing how I - a foolish, unintelligent, rank-and-file devotee - can keep his faith even amongst so-called leaks in the boat of ISKCON. May guru and Krishna bless me to write lucidly and straightforwardly on such an endeavor, as I have no influence myself and possess a tendency to be arrogant in my writings.

Our goal is to produce a small booklet dedicated to beautiful vaisnava relationships, and to show what the Acaryas have to say about the dangers of offences. We feel that this is at the heart of how Krsna Consciousness will spread and fear that this subject is often taken lightly. It is our attempt to bring it to the forefront of attention and please Krsna and Srila Prabhupada by remindng everyone of its importance. Thank you all so much for your contributions and time.

ps. All quotes can be sent to savebhakti@yahoo.com. Please also quote all your sources for either a quote or for a story.

Vaishnava Samskaras Booklet Available
by Krishnachandra das (Australia)
Posted March 1, 2007

It is very encouraging that Rachel Espinosa wished to know more about the purification rites of the living entity in the material world. These Samskaras are extremely important and were stressed by Srila Prabhupada in the Srimad Bhagavatam, etc.

Please see the Sri Ramanuja Matham website; these devotees have all the detailed information, are able to perform the rites and would be very happy to help you in this regard. They also have a 20- page booklet on Samskaras available for free download.
