Baladeva Vidyabhusana Project Updates

by Dr. Demian Martins
Posted June 30, 2012

The first phase of the Baladeva Vidyabhusana Project was highly successful and digital copies of nearly 90 editions of Srila Vidyabhusana’s books were acquired, including as some important manuscripts. Their front pages can be seen here: www.vidyabhusanaproject.blogspot.com

For several months, I travelled around Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal and Odisha, visiting many relevant places. The main acquisition was soft copies of two manuscripts so far unknown to the world: “Tattva-dipika” and “Brahma-sutra-karika-bhasya”. This last work is a concise commentary on the Vedanta-sutra written by Srila Vidyabhusana at the request of King Jai Singh. Important contacts were also made, among which is Sri Avadesh Acharya, the Mahanta of the Galta temple, the place where Srila Vidyabhusana wrote the Govinda-bhasya, and where they still have a manuscript library. Another great contact was Ram Kripalu Sharma who owns the largest manuscript collection in the world with around 125 thousand titles, most still unclassified. He enthusiastically promised to put at our disposal any of Srila Vidyabhusana’s work he might locate there. Also among the supporters of the project is Sri Krishna Gopalananda Goswami, the head pujari of the Sri Sri Radha-Syamasundara Temple the home of Srila Vidyabhusana in Vrndavana. He belongs to the Syamananda-parivara, the same as Srila Vidyabhusana, and has taken the initiative of mobilizing the members of his line to locate the lost manuscripts. Pouring Ghee Into Ashes: Bodily Discrimination in ISKCON

by Niscala dasi
Posted June 19, 2012

The Bhagavad-gita advises, or warns us: "Whatever leaders do, the common men follow, and whatever exemplary acts they perform, all the world pursues." Srila Prabhupada stressed the converse when he warned of "the blind, leading the blind, who all fall into a ditch."

Lord Kapiladeva in the Third Canto of Srimad Bhagavatam teaches us that if we discriminate at all on bodily differences, then all our strict worship of the Deity in the temple is as useless as pouring ghee into ashes. He is Krsna, so He is saying: "I will not accept your worship."

For the above reasons, it is alarming when we see our leaders deviating into bodily identification, for that disease can spread like wildfire in our ranks, extinguishing spiritual knowledge, realization, compassion and truth. When that happens, according to Lord Kapiladeva, we might as well forget about Deity worship; it will never bear fruit.

We don't want to be falsely alarmed, however. (Click here for the full article)

Service Opportunity at Sri Radha Kunda

by Archana devi dasi (Vrindavan, India)
Posted June 14, 2012

I have built a modest ashram near Sri Shyama Kunda in the service of ISKCON sannyasis and senior devotees who might sometimes like to recharge their batteries before going to the spiritual battlefield.

There are four rooms with the temple room, a terrace and a Tulasi garden. I am looking for couple in vanaprastha or two older brahmacharis to manage the ashram and worship our installed deities Radha-Damodara with Lalita-Vishaka there.

They should take care of any visiting senior devotees and do proper deity worship. I will take care of the deities' needs and will pay the light and water bills. I am giving a remuneration of Rs 3,700 per month.

The applicants should understand what Sri Radha Kunda is and should live there in proper consciousness. (Click here for the full article)

Film Depicts Lord Krishna's Vrindavan

by Sunil Maity
Posted June 8, 2012

ISKCON Cinema presents its beautiful documentary film on the holy land of Vrindavan, the birthplace of Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Vrindavan, about 90 miles from New Delhi, India, is where Krishna spent his childhood some 5,000 years ago. In Vrindavan the river Yamuna flows, the same river Yamuna that Krishna played in when he was a child. All the places of Krishna's pastimes are there in Vrindavan, and devotees come to Vrindavan from all over India and the rest of the world to remember these pastimes of Krishna. You can watch the film, Vrindavan: Land of Krishna at KrishnaTube or (in two segments) at YouTube: (Click here for the full article)

Mumbai Temple Offers Spacious Reading Room and Deposit Library

by Premanjana das
Posted June 16, 2012

Srila Prabhupada was always eager to see Vaishnava literature published.

The Bhaktivedanta Library in Mumbai is a unique subject that inspired me to write. I have been to many ISKCON temples, along with many holy places all over India; but at ISKCON Mumbai (Shri Radha Rasa Bihari Ji) I discovered a unique and special library that has an extensive collection of books by various authors from all over the world.

The Bhaktivedanta library is a veritable treasure house of knowledge. What makes me write this article was a small advertisement pamphlet of The Bhaktivedanta Library which I got from the take-away box of the library.

This library invites the public to read wonderful books in an air-conditioned comfort zone free of charge (except for the small amount to be paid if you borrow a book from the library's lend-for-money facility to take out and read at home). The library also has a take-away box, allowing visitors to take away photos, pictures, CDs and pamphlets free of cost. (Click here for the full article)

Coming Soon to a Theater Near You

by Nrsimhananda das
Posted June 5, 2012

BIG opportunity coming soon! Be prepared!

The release of "Hey Krishna" ("Krishna Aur Kans" in India) worldwide on Aug 3rd. - as in "most major cities of the world." It's timed for Janmastami. It's India's first stereographic 3-D animated feature ever - and it's based entirely on Srila Prabhupada's "Krsna" book.

Let us not fail to take advantage of the international release of this movie in order to maximize the distribution of Prabhupada's "Krsna" book

We are the "go-to" people regarding Krishna; let's live up to the expectation! Otherwise, the public will get the books about Krishna from impersonalists/mayavadi's.

Srila Prabhupada in the Preface: "....by reading this one book, Krsna, love of Godhead will fructify." Of course, he also thanks George Harrison for funding the book. (Shyamsundar p. has a funny story about how George finally agreed; write me if you're interested.) (Click here for the full article)

Prayer Request

by Gopal Das
Posted June 3, 2012

I just want to send a little prayer request for New Brijbasi, Bhakta Adam, who recently took his own life. Bhakta Adam spent time, like I did, in New Vrindaban around 1994-1998. He was a very hard worker in the goshalas. With intelligence that made him fit only for the farm labor that New Vrindaban was famous for. He had problems; he was a little insane and could've used some professional psychiatric help. But he was a very sincere soul looking for help; like all of us were at one time. Looking for a cure to his insanity, he took shelter of Krishna at one time in his life, and Sri Sri Radha Vrindaban Candra, and I hope that he got it. I sincerely pray that he received their grace: Click Here

We are a big broad family, and we need to pray for our own regardless of their sins, as we hope others will pray for us when it's all said and done. (Click here for the full article)

New Child Protection Policies Approved By ISKCON Authorities

by Anuradha dasi for ISKCON News
Posted June 30, 2012

“ISKCON recognizes that children, for their full and harmonious development, need to be raised in an atmosphere of love, support, guidance and understanding."

The Governing Body Commission of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) has approved an updated version of ISKCON’s “Child Protection Policy and Operational Guidelines.” The Guidelines set standards for child protection within ISKCON, mandate how the ISKCON’s Central Office of Child Protection (CPO) and local Child Protection Teams should function, while clarifying how ISKCON leaders and members should respond to any allegations of abuse.

The Child Protection Guidelines open with a two-page statement declaring the “paramount” importance of child protection within ISKCON:

“The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) is committed to the well being of all individuals involved with ISKCON, especially children and other more vulnerable participants." (Click here for the full article)

New Inmate Artwork On the Ipm Website

by Bhakti-lata dasi
Posted June 16, 2012

Sanatan and Rupa Goswamis surrender to Lord Chaitanya.

For a long time I have wanted to share some beautiful Krsna conscious artwork the inmates have made. Recently, Sanjay Goel prabhu has generously donated a wireless printer-scanner so I can scan the inmates' artwork. Then, our neighbor and friend, Mahakrti prabhu, very kindly came to the IPM office and installed a program to convert PDF files into JPEG. Thanks to these devotees' help, I am happy to announce that there's new artwork on the IPM website ( www.iskconprisonministry.org ) and that more will gradually be uploaded. Please take a few minutes to see these never-before-seen windows to the spiritual world.

At this moment, there is a golden opportunity to sponsor the mailing of 50 Back to Godhead magazines every month, which comes to $100 a month. Fifty BTGs are already being sponsored monthly by a generous devotee who wishes to remain anonymous, and you can make a huge difference in sponsoring the other 50.
