A priori knowledge defies reason

I can only speak for myself and, in this case, Srila Prabhupada.

Srila Prabhupada always accepted what he read in the sastra as the Absolute Truth. In 1975, when he was translating the 5th Canto in Australia, he called Parmahansa and myself into the room and said, "Now I am convinced we never went to the moon." (Click here for the full article)

The purpose of moon-eating heads
A reply on Ananta Prabhu's article

by Subhdara-mayi d.d.
Posted June 5, 2005

I surely hope that we don't base our intellect on the faith that everything in Bhagavatam is literally true with the simple idea that Srila Vyasadeva would not have time to write stories. Why wouldn't he have written stories? After all, the public at the time was slightly different that the public now. Regarding my example of Rahu, we know that it's not a giant head eating the sun or moon. Indeed, the sight of a lunar or solar eclipse must have been extremely frightening for our ancestors. They were much more in touch with nature, the cosmos, and thus too, the sun, moon and other planets. They depended on the sky for their lives, it gave order. (Click here for the full article)

We are in darkness, Krishna is the light
by Bhakta Edwin
Posted June 1, 2005

Please accept my humble obeisances, all glories to Srila Prabhupada. This is a response to the article, "Are we in darkness?" posted 11/01/04. Though this may sound fanatic, I found this article to be an attack on the perfect knowledge contained in the Bhagavatam, and ignored it when it was first posted. Seeing others have responded in mostly a sentimental way (please forgive my offenses, I do not mean to be with this statement), I hope to respond with logic and reasoning. At the very least, explain why I would accept information that seems to completely contradict current science -- the planet Rahu being one example. (Click here for the full article)

I was saddened to read the article by Rocana Das. I am a disciple of Srila Prabhupada living in Nottingham. I was longing for the association of devotees and was fortunate to attend Rathayatra in Leicester. There I was reunited with some of my godbrothers who welcomed me and introduced me to some disciples of HH Sivarama Swami, who organise the Nama Hatta in Nottingham. These devotees have encouraged me, supporting me through difficult times. I am now an active member of Nama Hatta and I also have had the opportunity to visit the Temple in Leicester where I have felt nothing but affection from the devotees new and old. Whenever there is a visiting Swami or special event at the temple, these devotees make sure we all know of it so that we can take advantage of the association. They have shown me nothing but kindness and my spiritual life is now flourishing as a result. Please do not be discouraged. I am not qualified to advise anyone other than to constantly seek out the association of devotees.

Bhakti Tirtha Swami enters into Nirjana Bhajana
by Citi-Sakti d.d.

Yesterday afternoon in Gita Nagari Dhama, H. H. Bhakti Tirtha Swami made his final public appearance. He was joined by H. H. Radhanatha Swami, H. H. Gunagrahi Swami, H. H. Bhaktivaibhava Swami, H. H. Bhakti Visvambhara Madhava Swami and H. H. Candramauli Swami. Bhakti Tirtha Swami spoke with great love and compassion to the devotees as he embarked on sixty minutes of honest and open sharing, explaining why this would be his last public appearance. "The time has now come to enter into nirjana bhajana," Maharaja revealed, sharing his decision to focus on his internal life by engaging in mana-seva (service in the mind). His desire now is only to speak, hear and think about Krsna. Maharaja went on to say that although a devotee is traditionally not meant to reveal his or her internal bhajana, it is also important at this time to consider priti, which involves revealing the mind in confidence and hearing others reveal their minds. In this mood, Maharaja desired to share some of his experiences involving the separation of the body, mind and soul that devotees undergo when they leave their bodies.
