by Seva das
Posted July 22, 2007

July 10 - Tuesday - Canoeing at Silver Lake, Ontario

Today we're at Silver Lake, one of the many lakes in the province of Ontario. It's about halfway between Montréal and Toronto, not far off the main highway. We have a morning program and, after breakfast, get into study groups to read various books of Srila Prabhupada. Some are studying Teachings of Lord Chaitanya, others Nectar of Instruction. Others join a Bhagavad-gita study group facilitated by H.H. Jayadvaita Swami. After lunch, we rent some canoes and most of the youth paddle out onto the lake. In the evening we get together again for dinner and then head out on the road again. (Click here for the full article)

Mayapur Nagara Sankirtan Party
by Shastra dasa
Posted July 13, 2007

HH Bhakti Purusottama Swami kindly sponsored new musical instruments and a Public Address System for the Nagara Sankirtan Department. An African djembe drum was sent from Ghana; combining the djembe drum and the accordion music for the kirtan is quite attractive for the local villagers as they love to dance and interact with the devotees. They usually beg us to visit on a regular basis. By the mercy of Lord Gauranga we covered seven Islands in the month of June. We hope this will please our Spiritual masters?? Lifeguards for Mayapur Festival
by Adi Kavi das
Posted July 7, 2007

I spoke this week with a GBC member about the Mayapura drownings, and he thought I had a good idea. I told him I would send Chakra a letter on the topic.

Even a good swimmer can be caught unaware of the strong currents that may circulate near the banks, and every year devotees are drowning (See "Swim Safely in the Ganges".)

For a nominal fee, of perhaps ten cents a bath, a lifeguard could be hired to watch the devotees bathe during the Mayapura festivals each year. (Click here for the full article)

Hindu to Lead Prayer in U.S. Senate for First Time Ever

by Doug Huntington, christianpost.com

A Hindu chaplain will lead the U.S. Senate in prayer this month for what is believed the first time in government history. On July 12, Rajan Zed, a Hindu chaplain from Nevada, will open the Senate's morning session with prayer-something normally seen as a Judeo-Christian tradition. Christian senators, in response, have expressed their approval of the event because it reflects the right to free speech in the government body. (Click here for the full article)

Preventing Drownings
by Adi Kavi Dasa
Posted July 5, 2007

For a nominal fee, of perhaps ten cents a bath, a lifeguard could be hired to watch the devotees bathe during the Mayapura festivals each year. Even a good swimmer can be caught unaware of the strong currents that may circulate near the banks, and every year devotees are drowning. The fee could either be collected at registration upon arrival in Mayapura for just a local man with a speedboat, or it could be higher for bathing during posted hours while a certified lifeguard is on duty with a jetski. It might even be good to have a guard posted to keep devotees away from the bathing area during the lifeguard's off hours. I would much rather pay a dollar when I go to Mayapura than hear of one more devotee accidentally leaving his or her body by drowning.

Mahabharata Meets British Theatre

by Rasasthali, vijnana.wordpress.com
Posted July 3, 2007

In June 2007 we experienced that the dreams of many come true: the Mahabharata, the most famous Indian epic, is being performed on a theatre stage. I went to the performance with my husband, guru and a few devotees from Oxford. A member of Iskcon, Gaura Lila Prabhu from Switzerland, was the co-producer of this professional project. Amongst the celebrities that prepared the play was a famous composer Nitin Sawhney, the writer Stephen Clark who won the Oliver Prize, and 27 dancers, singers, musicians and actors under direction of Stuart Wood, as well as the Karthak and Akram Khan choreographer Gauri Sharma Tripathi. Opportunity At Gita-nagari USA
by Jaya Gopal das
Posted July 1, 2007

In March of 2006, our family purchased a small roadside eatery, less than 2 miles from ISKCON Gita-nagari farm, along Pennsylvania State Highway 75. Following several weeks of renovations and organizing, we re-opened "Spruce Hill Lunch" for business as Juniata County's first vegetarian/prasadam restaurant. Besides serving lunch and dinner, a very popular soft serve ice cream is made available to local residents and area devotees. Our emphasis has not been so much on the "vegetarian" theme, but rather that our offering is wholesome, homemade and "different". In general we have received much encouragement and support from the general populace, as from the devotee community as well. (Click here for the full article)

We could use a Military Ministry and I am trying to get that going!

The black vinyl version is nice because it fits in uniform pockets and one doesn't have to worry about it bending or getting creased. Japa malas would be nice too.
