Mula's memories on video
by Siddhanta das
Posted July 31, 2004

With great pleasure we present Mulaprakriti prabhu's Memories of Srila Prabhupada. Two weeks before she departed this world for the spiritual world, Mulaprakriti devi dasi sat down for an interview and shared her direct experiences with Srila Prabhupada, as well as remembrances she collected over the last few years from Prabhupada's associates before he came to the west. This video is extraordinary, as it not only sheds new light on the glories of Srila Prabhupada, but also shows the devotion Srimati Mulaprakriti has for her spiritual master and the advanced consciousness of one who is preparing to leave this world. Mulaprakriti's blissful nature and enthusiasm for spreading Krsna consciousness is exemplary and contagious as she shares her memories of His Divine Grace. (Click here for the full article)

A Case for Impersonalism
submitted by Vrndadevi dasi
Posted July 30, 2004

I am an impersonalist. I believe the message is more important than the messenger. Therefore the incident related below -- a recent exchange from one of the ISKCON electronic fora -- is stripped of any personal details. These people may all be GBCs. They may be new bhaktas. If you don't know, all the better. Exchanges of this type happen all the time. I find them so frustrating I want to scream. (Click here for the full article)

Kirtanananda is no longer a swami
by Srinitamba dasi
Posted July 27, 2004

Kirtanananda prabhu, in your open letter to VNN [See below], you wrote, "I have offended many Vaisnavas and have even broken the regulative principles". Not only did you break the principles -- you chose to sexually violate a young, innocent boy who will have to live with this fact for the rest of his life. That is more than simply breaking the principles -- a lot more. In addition to this, you were charged and convicted as having been having been responsible for murder. New web site for Custom made Deity paraphernalia
by Bhranti d.d.
Posted July 26, 2004

A new web site is now up and running, making all kinds of traditional mukuts (crowns and turban decorations) available to everyone. My name is Bhranti devi dasi, I live in Alachua and am a disciple of Srila Prabhupada. I have been working at this traditional craft for thirty years and I have collected many design books during my trips to India, and practiced many styles. This craft is passed down within a family, and their designs are carefully kept to themselves. One advantage that we have here in the states is the availability of crystals and rhinestones, making for a very sparkling and opulent result.

I love this work, and as Srila Prabhupada once said "When you decorate the Deity, you decorate your heart." Let's get to work! Anyone may order, either for temple Deities, home Deities, or for gifts to offer for special occasions.

Report on the Status of the ISKCON Child Protection Office
by Dhira Govinda das
Posted July 20, 2004

History

By the late 1980s there were widespread reports about extensive child maltreatment throughout ISKCON. In 1990 the ISKCON Governing Body Commission (GBC) passed resolution 119, which attempted to establish a system of investigating, reporting, and preventing incidents of child abuse. Though this resolution did not contain significant power of enforcement, it did provide some common-sense guidelines for child protection, and it sent the message that ISKCON recognizes that mistreatment of children in its communities is a serious issue. Moscow Temple Website Opening!
by Dina Sharana das

The devotees in Moscow, Russia have opened a beautiful website today dedicated to the new $12,000,000 Cultural Center/Temple they are building. Srila Prabhupada was very keen on having a Moscow temple. Devotees are extremely excited by the startling success in having the land for the complex donated by the Russian Government. They have drawn up plans for a Vedic style temple complete with 2 restaurants, café, auditorium with stage, boutique, meeting rooms, and a huge temple room. This a grand step forward for Lord Chaitanya's preaching mission, a beautiful feather in Srila Prabhupada's "swami hat". (Click here for the full article)

The Vedic Theory of Clinical Social Work
by Dhira Govinda dasa
(David B. Wolf, Ph.D.)
Posted July 31, 2004

The Indian Journal of Social Work (IJSW), vol. 64, issue 3 (July, 2003) has published an article authored by David Wolf (Dhira Govinda dasa) entitled The Vedic Theory of Clinical Social Work. This article, in addition to its specific contribution to the profession of social work, serves as a model for Vaisnava theorists and practitioners in diverse professions for the relevance of Vedic principles and practices in today's world. In practically every field of endeavor models and theories based on Vaisnava knowledge can and should be developed and implemented. This entails demonstrating not only the capacity for dovetailing the tenets and systems of a vocation with the process of Krsna consciousness, but also showing that that which is valid and useful in any sphere of activity finds its completion and fulfillment in the philosophy and practice of Vaisnavism... New York Prasadam Saves the World:
And We Need Your Help!

by Satyaraja das
Posted July 29, 2004

In addition to restaurants, devotees have always found unique ways to distribute prasadam, including catering services, such as Magic Lotus, Food For Life, cookbooks, such as Yamuna's and Kurma's, and prasadam carts. Most such carts are short-lived endeavors. But Jerry Abrams-with determined enthusiasm-has been dedicated to giving New Yorkers a taste of Krishna for some twenty years. "Dishes Make Merchant a Taste Treat on Broadway," reads the headline of Warren Woodberry Jr.'s front-page story in New York Newsday. "Dozens of people wait patiently in line to be served from the busiest food cart during lunch time." Woodberry describes Abrams as a phenomenon, and praises his work in superlatives. And that's just one of many major articles-the New York Times and New York magazine also ran feature stories, acknowledging this distinct cart's culinary specialness. "It's not just because it's vegetarian," says Abrams. "It's because it's prasadam." (Click here for the full article)
