A Love of Learning
by Gopi Gita Schomaker
Posted February 22, 2012

TKG Academy - the Dallas Elementary Day School - located in Kalachandji Dham right near the Dallas Temple, has been serving the community children since the 1980's. With a beautiful playground, nestled in a pecan grove, next to Kalachandji's Park and a block from Kalachandji's Palace, temple and Restaurant, it is an idyllic location for children to thrive. An updated website, showcasing all that the students are accomplishing is up at www.tkgacademy.com.

All the students start their day with a Sadhana Class, where they worship the school Deities of Sri Jagannath, Baladeva and Subhadra each morning. They chant japa and learn Vaishnava songs and prayers. This gives them a firm foundation for the intellect to thrive. Students then head into their Academics Classes, from Kindergarten to 8th grade, where they study in an engaging dynamic way, that meet and exceed state standards of education. The small student to teacher ratio - 1/10 - allows teachers to work individually with each child, attentive to his/her particular learning styles, interests and needs in order to motivate the student and impart a love for learning and academic excellence. Response to "Change of Asrama is Not Guru Falldown"
by Gaurav Mittal
Posted February 13, 2012

Niscala DD brings interesting issues in her article "Change of Asrama is Not Guru Falldown". Before this issue is addressed, one needs to know the meaning of "falldown". Falldown refers to going down from high elevated state to lower state of spiritual advancement. To understand this, the spiritual advancement needs to be understood. The spiritual advancement is inner state of realization. In Iskcon, this is misunderstood. The spiritual advancement is judged by external material circumstances or rituals.

One common characteristics of advanced devotee accepted in Iskcon is the ability of the devotee to convert people to one's faith. If this is accepted, then the advancement is dependent on number of followers one has. The followers of Christianity and Islam have converted millions of people to their religion. That does not mean that the leaders of those conversion were spiritually advanced. Conversion as the quality of advancement is never mentioned in Vedic literature by Vyasa Deva. Advancement of person is independent of one's ability change other’s faith and make followers. (Click here for the full article)

Beautiful Building Lot for Sale in Alachua, Florida
by Lalita Sakhi dasi
Posted February 24, 2012

We are selling one of the last beautiful building lots left in Alachua, Florida. This lot is rectangular, measuring 100 x 138 ft. [Total = 13,800 sq. ft. (1,280 sq. m.) or 1/3 acre]; it is also vastu and faces the east. It sits at the end of a paved cul-de-sac (which is great for kids!) and also has sidewalks. The lot has seven large, beautiful trees and only forest views at the rear and side. There are several nice spots for a small, medium, or moderately large sized garden.

Right now it costs only $55-62/sq ft-to build a NEW Low-E concrete block home that will meet all your immediate and future needs. Why settle for an aging energy inefficient fixer-upper that you are always going to be working on! An additional benefit is that a new house will meet the codes for any potential hurricanes with winds of 110mph. Older fixer-uppers will generally require a new roof if a hurricane should ever hit like it did in fall of 2005 with winds of only 75 mph.

No site work is needed; the lot is ready to build upon. (Click here for the full article)

Is It Appropriate for Leaders to Endorse Bhaktividya Purna Swami?
by Sanaka Rsi
Posted February 21, 2012

A number of friends and acquaintances have shared, that though agreeing with the points I have raised in my articles, they take objection to the forums I have used. Posting an article on any given news site, does not require or imply my endorsement all the views expressed therein. While I acknowledge their disapproval, I do not see that I have valid alternatives at present, and in spite of whatever imperfections may be there, I am grateful for the opportunity to avail of these forums.

Notwithstanding my objection to some of the material posted on dandavats, I sent a copy of every recent article I have written to the editor; who has evidently deemed them unfit for publication. I hold that any such considerations one may have, pale before the urgency and gravity of the topic at hand; to avoid addressing child protection issues on account of a lack of ideal forums is not a sensible alternative.

I’d like to ask a question to those who disapproved of the websites that posted my articles; with this question I mean no offence to anyone, it is exclusively intended as a way to offer food for thought. (Click here for the full article)

Remembering Nitai Das
by Tukaram das, ISKCON Laguna Beach
Posted February 13, 2012

A portrait of Nitai das

I want to write something to honor the passing of my friend, Nitai das, but find myself questioning the purpose behind my writing.

On one hand, I'm writing for myself (out of necessity), to grieve and give shape to myriad thoughts that are inspiring (and vexing) me. On the other hand, it's also my hope that, by writing, I might be able to share my love, appreciation and understanding of Nitai prabhu with others. In some way, I'm just attempting to keep Nitai alive with my words, lest his memory be lost. Of course, to really perpetuate Nitai's memory, I'll have to continue the legacy of service he started. My own mortality is also splintering my mind's eye, and writing about Nitai is an attempt at staving off my own body's and memory's impending demise by doing for him what I hope someone else will do for me when my time inevitably comes. New Book Release
by Kurmaksetra Dasa
Posted February 3, 2012

We are pleased to announce the release of a new landmark book by Dr.Sahadeva dasa, "Capitalism Communism And Cowism - A New Economics For The 21st Century"

One reader from Belgium has commented, "Yesterday somebody introduced me to these books and by now i nearly finished The CCC. I am impressed. I know what is happening in the world but although i am a cow bhakta i was not that convinced that the cow is THE SOLUTION."

Srila Prabhupada says, "Human society needs only sufficient grain and sufficient cows to solve its economic problems. All other things but these two are artificial necessities created by man to kill his valuable life at the human level and waste his time in things which are not needed.” (SB 3.2.29)

The world is in search of an economic system that works for the people and the Planet. And this search has been going on for the last one hundred years without much success. (Click here for the full article)

Vraj Ki Khoj
by Dayaveer Das
Posted February 24, 2012

We are happy to inform the devotees and the general public that with blessings of Srila Prabhupada of ISKCON, Sri Sri Gaura Nitai and Sri Sri Radha Parthasarathi, Gaurang Institute for Transcendental Awakening (GITA), has made a 2 hours + movie on history of Vraj, titled ‘Vrak Ki Khoj’, the 3 minute demo of which can be viewed on net by typing ‘Vraj Ki Khoj’ on the search engine.

H.G. Jitamitra Prabhu, Senior Preacher, ISKCON, Delhi & author of famous ‘Sri Bhagwan ne Kaha’ & whose detailed descriptions on sholokas of Bhagwad Gita are published in monthly magazine, Bhagwad Darshan (as started by Srila Prabhupada, founder Acharya of ISKCON) and H.G. Mahamantra Prabhu, Life Membership Director and Counsel Member, ISKCON Delhi, after viewing the full movie, have praised the movie, as very encouraging. H.G. Jitamitra Prabhu, has mentioned in the Appreciation letter (as attached herewith), that the movie presents in a very lively form, that how one can purify his consciousness by chanting of the Holy Name and provides the vision to public blinded by sense gratification, that how Six Goswamis of Vrindavan had abandoned their opulent life style and used to live very simple life in Vrindavan Dham and drive the true pleasure by chanting of Holy Name. Second International Vaisnavi Retreat at Govardhana

by Prasanta Dasi for ISKCON News
Posted February 22, 2012

The first one was just too good. How good? Here, in their own words, is what the Vaisnavis experienced during our first outing in Govardhana in 2011: authenticity, dedication, inspiration, open-heartedness, absence of competitiveness, a breath of fresh air, focus on Srila Prabhupada, safety, peacefulness, intimacy, affection and love, examples to look up to, friendship, caring, acceptance, Srila Prabhupada’s presence, “heart surgery,” courage to traverse life in Krishna consciousness, determination to serve Srila Prabhupada’s mission, the bliss of kirtana, service attitude—altogether, an amazing sanga!

So we are doing it again. Same place—Jatipura, Govardhana. Same time of the year — February 27 to March 2.

One might question the need for such a program. The simple fact is that it fills a need. Every devotee needs peer association and intimate relationships on the spiritual platform. Many a times it is difficult for ISKCON female devotees to have such association in their daily lives. Many live far away from the temples or, even if close by, (Click here for the full article)

Sexual Abuse Allegations in the Vrindavana Gurukula
by Sanaka Rsi das
Posted February 21, 2012

During the many years that I was there, there had been may different cases but in relevance to the the time of the new management I was present only during their initial year and a half.

There had been certain child on child cases detected by some of the senior students. I was also witness to two such cases where I had reported them to the concerned teachers. This was mostly found in kids of ages 10-12. But mainly it seems to me that such occurrences are due to the fact that there have been no Child protection training seminars for the children as well as the adults in the past few years i.e. perhaps 2 years or so.

Some of my juniors had also told me that a there is bhramachari in the temple who would often mingle in with the kids a lot and offer them anything they would want from the prasadam stall. He would sometimes try to touch them inappropriately in the mob at the temple while dancing. He had even invited several individuals ranging from the ages of 10-14 to his office alone. Another Original Bhagavatam for Sale
by Alex Soto
Posted February 13, 2012

I also have the same volume three of the first Canto of the original Srimad Bhagavatam published by the League of Devotees in India in 1965. The one I have has Satsvarupa das Goswami's name and address written down, which means it used to belong to him, and it is probably one of the ones he received personally from Srila Prabhupada's own hand, back in 1966 in New York. I wish I didn't have to sacrifice it but I have to. I'm actually asking for twice the amount of what Jagat Vira Prabhu is asking for his, but I'm including with the book a few little pieces of hair from Srila Prabhupada's transcendental lotus head. A very kind god-sister (disciple of Prabhupada) was merciful to me and gave me just a few of those genuine original little pieces of hair from Srila Prabhupada's own lotus head, and I've had them on my altar as a most treasureable object of love and worship. Devotees Killed in Florida Car Crash

by Clifford Davis and Dana Treen, Florida Times-Union

A driver and his two passengers (all Hare Krishna devotees) died late Tuesday night (January 31) in a crash with a semi at the intersection of Florida Rte. 228 (Normandy Blvd.) and U.S. Highway 301 in Maxville (outside of Jacksonville, Florida).

The driver of a Toyota Corolla, 31-year-old Elisha K. Drury (Nitai das) of Moundsville, W.Va., was stopped at Highway 301 about 10 p.m. before pulling out in front of the truck, according to Lt. Bill Leeper and the Florida Highway Patrol report. The semi hit the driver’s side of the vehicle and dragged it about 75 yards before it came to rest, with the car nearly completely underneath it.

Drury was killed along with passengers Timothy F. Carter (Gopinath das), 30, and Jose L. Caicedo (Yadupati das), 47, both of Alachua County. Leeper said the friends were returning from a Jimmy Buffett concert in Jacksonville. (Click here for the full article)
