Care for Cows Land Appeal
by Kurma Rupa das
Posted December 31, 2007

The Care for Cows facility at Raman Reti has welcomed many of you during the last few years. Those who have come to meet the residents to whom the facility is now home, know full well that a visit to CFC is an unforgettable experience. Often it is a long anticipated moment when Sponsors get to personally meet their chosen cow for the first time or a chance for long term Sponsors to reunite with their cows. CFC has offered new guests a glimpse of the plight and suffering of Vrindavan's abandoned cows and helped them face up to the harsh reality of life for those left on the streets to fend for themselves or left for dead at the roadside, after an accident, in the Holy Dham. Prabhupada Arrives in Istanbul
by Nararatna das (ISKCON Turkey)
Posted December 30, 2007

"How can Prabhupada arrive in Istanbul?" I hear some of you say. Let me share this wonderful pastime with you.

Around winter of 2006 a local devotee wanted so much to have Srila Prabhupada's murti here that she offered to pay half of the cost. Jumping at the chance of seeing this long-awaited desire manifest, I sent out an Internet message asking if devotees could help us get the murti here. One American claimed he could accomplish this for about $2,000. Whilst contemplating how to raise so much laxmi, we were saved by a devotee who informed us that this person had cheated the Scottish yatra; he didn't have Prabhupada's murti at all. The Passing of Vibhucaitanya
by Deena Bandhu das
Posted December 26, 2007

Last night on the 22nd of December at 9:43 in the evening Vibhucaitanya Prabhu passed from this world. Kirtan had been going on in his room for around eight hours led by various devotees as it was apparent that he was ready to leave.

Finally Aindra Prabhu came and began a very slow sweet kirtan that went on for hours. Almost all the senior devotees in Vrindavan came at one time or another to take part in the kirtan. Since the day before, it appeared that he was no longer conscious and he was sleeping peacefully with very shallow breathing. We were all very sad, but also happy that now he would be joining Those Lords for whom he had cooked for so many years. (Click here for the full article)

Bathing in the Holy Name
by Ila devi dasi

"On Parikrama to Srimati Vishnupriya Devi's Temple in Navadvipa, we bathed in the Holy Names of the Lord as part of our purification to fix our mind on devotional service - and with the Mayapur Nagar Sankirtan Department's sound system, you are INDEED BATHING in the sound of the Holy Name!" - HH Kadamba Kanana Swami, Lecture, Sat 8 December.

HH Kadamba Kanana Swami explained further how we can never be as austere as Vishnupriya Devi, but we must choose a service and become fixed like her in that service. And all of us should become fixed like her in chanting our 16 rounds. (Click here for the full article)

City of Joy
by Anuttama das ACBSP (non-GBC)
Posted December 15, 2007

Today is my last day in India and what a day it was. I am in Calcutta--The city of Joy

I am staying at the ISKCON Temple in the center of the city. The devotees here are very helpful. They even picked me up at the airport. So this morning they informed my that the Radha Govinda temple where Srila Prabhupada had worshipped as a child was having a special function. When I say special I mean one in a life time, at least for me. They were taking the Deities off the altar and walking them up and down the main street in front of the temple. Now remember, these are no small deities. They are brass and almost the size of Radha Damodar at Gita Nagari. (Click here for the full article)

ISKCON Festival Draws Thousands

The three-day program ISKCON-utsava, held recently in Visakhapatnam, India, began on a grand note. There was Gita chanting, exuberant Hare Krishna kirtan, dance, bhajans and beautiful Kuchipudi- style Krishna- and Rama-Lila ballets.

The site was tastefully decorated with over 100 stalls. Noted singers from all over Andhra Pradesh rendered devotional Krishna bhajans of the Vaishnava poet Anamacharya, and the whole area echoed with Hare Krishna kirtan as thousands of participants chanted loudly. New Hindu School in U.K. Requires Students to be Vegetarian

by wayodd.com
Posted December 9, 2007

The constant admonition for kids to eat their veggies probably will not be heard often in the Krishna-Avanti school in northwest London. The school requires enrollees to be vegetarians. The school policy is criticized by Hindus who find the strict requirement favoring the Hare Krishna tradition.

The school's leaning toward practices of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, more known as Hare Krishna, is not surprising since the movement's vegan followers are behind the school administration. (Click here for the full article)

Psychological Testing Needed for Temple Offices
by Alice Ahola (Helsinki, Finland)
Posted December 7, 2007

To be a temple president is such an important and difficult position that there should be dignified psychological tests for the person who is going to be in that position. For many years we have been experiencing negative influences from the side of authorities who have not been mentally fit enough for their positions.

Also they should be asked if they were taking a lot of drugs before they joined. Drugs can cause difficult reactions in the body, even long after the person has stopped taking them.

Tribute to Ajitananda Prabhu
by Jerry Barr
Posted December 3, 2007

I am deeply saddened by the news of Ajitananda's departure from this world. I am positive he is one of the most sincere servants of Srila Prabhupada I've met. One could tell through his qualities that he was an authentic Vaisnava. He was simple, forbearing and loving. His speech was rich with Krishna- and Prabhupada-katha. He wasn't one of those 'hell-fire' preachers, but always preached gently with a friendly smile. I remember when he spoke about Vrindavan. He was so eloquent and inspiring that I felt he was bringing Vrindavan to me personally just by his speech. (Click here for the full article)

  Past Behavior And Future Plans
by Satsvarupa dasa Goswami
Posted December 26, 2007

I understand that many devotees still have questions about my past behavior. They doubt why I continue to have a position as an ISKCON leader. Therefore I would like to clarify my falldown in 2002, my recovery, service, and relationship to ISKCON.

First of all I would like to apologize to Pranada and Nagaraja Prabhus, whom I deeply hurt and whose trust I betrayed. I genuinely apologize to all my disciples, my godbrothers and godsisters, and all members of ISKCON. I am beginning to understand the depth of the damage my behavior has caused for everyone, and the compounding of the damage by initially understating the matter.

The reaction to this fall has been devastating to the spiritual lives of so many devotees and created much mistrust in myself. As I have held a position of high honor in ISKCON my misbehavior naturally throws doubts upon other leaders in the movement. This is a disservice to ISKCON and its leaders. For this, too, I apologize sincerely. I have been praying that Lord Krsna and Srila Prabhupada forgive me. I realize that many Vaishnavas want me to be transparent and accept responsibility for my actions, so I am opening my heart to them in an attempt to bring closure to this sad chapter in my history.

When I first wrote about my relationship with Pranada Dasi, (Click here for the full article)

Natural Bhakti
by Ram das
Posted December 23, 2007

Bhakti is the natural function of the soul. The science of attraction is an approach to Bhakti that works with this natural function. This requires the absence of force. By forcible demands and strict rules a pressure is developed that is unfavorable for Bhakti. No pressure is necessary as the transcendental, self-manifesting position of Bhakti means that she is not dependent on karma, jnana and vairagya (ritual, knowledge and renounciation). Bhakti is the transcendental emotion of bhava, a feeling. Without the pressure of moral and ideological affright no fear and guilt is provoked. Then Bhakti grows in a natural and very intense way. Bhakti is completely independent. Bhakti only comes from Bhakti, as Srimad Bhagavatam states in 11.3.31: bhaktya sanjatayah bhaktya. Natural Bhakti is Bhakti beyond fear and guilt, an integral approach that is based on freedom and equal vision. www.gopi.de

RSPCA 'Secretly' Killed Cow at Hindu Temple

The cow, a 13-year-old Belgian Blue and Jersey cross, was killed by the RSPCA

A cow kept at a Hindu temple once owned by former Beatle George Harrison was secretly killed by the RSPCA today, Hindu groups have claimed.

Gauri Das, leader of the Hindu Community at Bhaktivedanta Manor temple in Hertfordshire, said that the cow was given a lethal injection this morning while worshippers were at prayer. Hindus consider cows to be sacred and killing them sacrilegious and Times Online understands that temple officials are considering legal action against the RSPCA over its actions.

Managers Require Both Testing And Training
by Raga devi dasi (Alachua, Florida)
Posted December 18, 2007

I couldn't agree more with the short article "Psychological Testing Needed for Temple Offices" featured the other day by Alice Ahola from Finland. Unfortunately for all of us, ISKCON has known much abuse -- and not of children alone; many adults have experienced it as well.

Due to overly intense managers who really abused their rank and power, or whose priorities were mostly on externals and "performance" and little else, many of us adults who have lived in temples are now very disappointed and "walking wounded" also. (Click here for the full article)

The Book Distribution Initiative

Book distribution has changed since the "glory days" of the 1960s and 70s. Most devotees are now householders with jobs rather than fulltime missionaries. But is this necessarily a bad thing? Caitanya dasa made sure that the devotees consisted of men and women, as well as older and newer devotees. Each group of students conducted several phone interviews with their devotee. Of course, we know that the Lord and His associates love to decorate themselves with the natural minerals of the forest. Bhaktivedanta Manor Press Release

The RSPCA aided by a vet and escorted by police officers yesterday morning secretly killed a cow at Bhaktivedanta Manor while worshippers were at prayer.

The cow, named Gangotri, a 13 year-old Belgian Blue and Jersey cross, and much loved by the community, was killed at 9.00 am at the Bhaktivedanta Manor. Police bundled away devotees who were in attendance of the sick cow, and the head farmer was kept talking while inside the barn a lethal injection was given to the cow.

Cows are sacred to Hindus, and the killing of a cow is considered to be an outrageous act. The killing of a cow at a temple amounts to religious sacrilege of the worst kind. (Click here for the full article)
