Guidelines for Chakra Events Submissions
by Chakra Editorial Staff
Posted December 28, 2003

Chakra tries to keep from exalting any one devotee over any others, as per our mission statement, as well as to provide a sober and reliable news-source. Therefore, when advertising speakers, such as visiting lecturers, musicians, &c., we would ask that the advertiser refrain from using excessive honorifics, making any claims of extraordinary spiritual powers on the part of the guest speaker, or guaranteeing spiritual advancement to attendees of the event. A brief, relevant resume of the speaker's qualifications, however, is acceptable. (Click here for the full article)

Mayapur Temple Project

Since I joined ISKCON in 1977 I heard about Srila Prabhupada's desire to build a huge temple in Mayapur. I know that over the last 25 years work has been done on this project, but no actual construction has taken place. I heard through the grapevine that millions of dollars has been spent on this project. Of course, no one really knows how much has been spent and most devotees have no idea really what has been done on this project. (Click here for the full article)

The overflowing ocean of mercy Sri Nityananda Rama
Ordained that the flood of love of God bestowed by Him
be distributed throughout the world.
Unfortunately, those persons to whom the noble responsibility
was given to spread this divine God-consciousness
Were tragically stricken by the disease of caste-consciousness,
And in their hands
which were always busy performing formal ritualistic ceremonies,
the exalted title "Goswami"
became merely another family surname,
And the channel of divine current became blocked.

Sound preaching includes caring for children
by Gaurav Mittal
Posted December 17, 2003

The philosophy of the Hare Krishna movement, sometimes claimed as the panacea for all problems, has failed to prevent child abuse. A deeper look into the presentation of the philosophy may show that it actually encouraged abuse. Unless the philosophical emphasis is correct, the movement will not be able to take proper care of children. Overt child abuse may not happen in the future as it happened in the '70s and '80s, but neglect will continue. (Click here for the full article)

And with the growing interest in yoga and meditation today, it's no wonder. Yet most readers of the Gita know very little about Krishna's astonishing personal life.
