Vancouver Holds 34th Chariot Festival

At the precise moment the Chariots began to roll, the clouds opened their gates and a torrent of mercy fell upon the chariots, devotees, well-wishers, spectators, passersby and media hounds. Temple Planned for Lord Nityananda's Birthplace
by Gopijanaballabha das, ISKCON Mayapur
Posted August 16, 2007

Sri Caitanya Caritamrita (Adi 13.61) declares: "In Radhadesa, the part of Bengal, where the Ganges is not visible, Nityananda Prabhu, Gangadasa Pandit, Murari Gupta and Mukunda took birth." In the purport to this verse, Srila Prabhupada gives a detailed description of Ekachakra.

We are happy to invite you to participate in the construction of a beautiful temple to glorify Lord Nityananda at His birthplace, Ekachakra Dham. Nityananda Mahaprabhu, being non-different from Lord Balarama, appeared here in the second half of the 15th century as the son of Hadai Ojha and Padmavati. (Click here for the full article)

Oh, the inner smile
of joy you give to me.
I look you way and see
what others cannot see.
United in spirit, as I stare
at your eyes...
the bliss just comes my way,
I'm thankful I have my deity picture
upon my desk today.

Devotee Farmers

by Gopal Nandini dasi
Posted August 13, 2007

Some dedicated devotee farmers are being recognized for their contributions to local and organic food production in North Carolina. A recent article in the Greensboro, NC News & Observer includes a story about local food producers and features a photograph of Krishna Chaitanya driving his ox Bhima. The article offers further indication of something many have caught on to already; that sustainable farming is an area of rapidly growing interest where devotees can really make a positive impact. Honolulu Murder Investigation: More Details
by Kirtan Rasa das (Kurt Mausert)
Posted August 8, 2007

Thank you for including the article from the Albany Times Union, "Hawaii Won't Prosecute Alleged Philippines Murderer". What that article doesn't tell your readers is that Eric Mausert, the person who was the victim of that crime, was Sriman Aksobhya das. Aksobhya prabhu was a disciple of Srila Prabhupada and was initiated in 1971. He, among with Srikanta prabhu, designed the system of indexing for the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust circa 1974.

Aksobhya left his body saving the life of a bhakta who was being attacked by a man with a knife. If you want a more complete story, the Metroland published one some months ago. If you Google Eric Mausert, you will find it.

This month we present:

  1. How "man's best friend" is not necessarily the cow's best friend.

  3. Medical reports on two cases we regrettably lost this month.

  4. A report on the insensitivity of the Welsh government.

Many of us will have heard the poignant story of Srila Shrinivas Acharya and how his nearly inconsolable grief at the successive disappearances of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Sri Gadadhar Pandit, Srila Rupa Goswami and Srila Sanatan Goswami was somewhat assuaged through the guidance of his illustrious siksa-gurus Srila Narahari Sarkar and Srila Jiva Goswami, as well as his diksa-guru Srila Gopal Bhatta Goswami. Why We Forget Karma
by Niscala dasi
Posted August 4, 2007

I have been having a discussion that I would like to share here, as to why God, through the passage of time and rebirth, makes us forget the roots of our karma, with the result that usually we suffer and can't remember why. I say "usually" because we have all heard of "instant karma". In that discussion, it was suggested that it is an ineffective system because in a prison system, remembering the crime for which one is punished is essential for rehabilitation. However before we can conclude that, we must first consider whether the creation is designed only to deter people from crime or sin- as in a prison- or if it serves another purpose which is altogether different. Then we must envision an alternative world- with instant karma for everything we do- and see if such a situation would ultimately serve that purpose. (Click here for the full article)

In Memory of Puru Prabhu
by the Chakra editors
Posted August 4, 2007

Lokaguru prabhu recently was kind enough to forward to Chakra an article written by Puru das, quoting extensively from a constitutional draft by Srila Prabhupada. Although the article was signed by "Puru das adhikari", we were unfortunately unaware that Sriman Puru prabhu had already passed away from a heart attack on April 25 of this year. We offer our condolences to his family and other well-wishers, and we thank Chakra reader Jitakrodha das for letting us know of the passing of Puru prabhu.

We feel that the article is nevertheless newsworthy and helpful to an ongoing Vaishnava dialogue on constitutional organization of ISKCON. (Click here for the full article)

Srila Prabhupada's Constitution of Association
by Puru das adhikari, Curator of the Bhaktivedanta Memorial
Posted August 2, 2007

With interest I read a recent article about an ISKCON constitution. There is no real need for anyone to make up a new one. Srila Prabhupada wrote one already. It can be found on pages 154-155 of "The Beginning," the 1966 New York Journal of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, Founder-Acarya for the International Society for Krishna Consciousness.

"The Beginning" was published by The Bhaktivedanta Archives, © Bhaktivedanta Book Trust, 1996, from diaries held by Bali Mardan das and from other original documents. Bali Mardan prabhu, a life trustee of the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust, lent the archives his source material with my encouragement for production. (Click here for the full article)
