Gay Vaisnavas: Don't Ask--Don't Tell
by Brahma das
(brahmadasa@yahoo.com)
Posted April 28, 2003

Vaisnavism refers to a culture of spirituality beyond bodily designations, and the worship of Visnu is aprakrta (beyond all material qualities). This stage of bhakti, however, is sudurlabha (rarely attained) and, according to Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur, takes place on the plane of advaya jnana tattva (non-dual consciousness). Nitya-siddha & the Vox Populi
by Brahma Das
Posted April 26, 2003

A reply to Jalakara dasa's article.

First I must acknowledge the errors in my previous article. Although the majority of the sannyasa disciples of Bhaktisiddhanta were from brahmana families it does appear there were a few exceptions. It is likely that those exceptions were from the kayastha community and although the kayastha is a mixed community Srila Prabhupada writes that in Bengal the kayastha community is honored almost as much as the brahmana community (Antya 6:23). Also I was informed from a number of sources that Audolomi Maharaja was as well a sannyasa disciple of Bhaktisiddanta. That his name was not on the official list has given rise to the speculation that it may have been removed (truncated) due to his later connection with the discredited Ananta Vasudeva. In any case I apologize for the errors in my article entitled "The Eighteen Sannyasa Disciples of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta".

Hotel Prabhupada -- Non-Veg
by Taradevi dasi
Posted April 26, 2003

After the wonderful Gour Purnima utsava at Shri Gaudiya Math in Shri Mayapur Dham we went to Shri Kshetra, Jagannatha Puri to take darshan of the Lord of the Universe and of the holy places associated with Shri Chaitanyadev and His Nitya-parshads. One evening after leaving the Shri Samadhi Mandir of Nam Acharya Haridas Thakura mother and I took a pleasant walk along the sea shore. After a distance or so we saw a group of hotels facing the sea and in the middle was a sign that read "Hotel Prabhupada." As we approach the large building I said to mother that it must be an ISKCON guesthouse or hotel because no follower of Shri Prabhupada Bhaktisiddhanta would name a hotel after our founder-acharya. Srila Prabhupada's siksa guru, ISKCON faith, and Sister societies of ISKCON.
By Gopakumar das

Reply to http://www.chakra.org/
discussions/succMar25_03_02.html

The main point of my article was that those devotees who followed Srila Prabhupada's mandate to see Srila Sridhara Maharaja for questions on philosophy were later excommunicated. They were asked to leave the mission or abandon their faith in Srila Sridhara Maharaja. This was not much of a choice for a sincere and loyal siksa disciple, some of which had been seeing him for many years, and as a result they have been living outside of Srila Prabhupada's institution for twenty years or so in order to ensure their loyalty to both these saints. I only wish that GBC members and leaders of the mission would validate these devotee's sincerity to preach and promote Srila Prabhupada's teachings while recognizing the influence Srila Sridhara Maharaja had on them. The spiritual world is big and we tend to want to make it very small by our mental function. I ask the GBC to call for the return of such devotees in the spirit of cooperation. Saintliness: Shared or Solitude
by Mukunda Goswami
Posted April 8, 2003

War in Iraq - population 23 million - could mean
millions of civilian deaths both there and maybe worldwide. No matter how
you slice it, war is hell. Is there a solution? Maybe.

The lives of acknowledged saints like Vyas Muni, Ramanuja and
Madhvacharya indicate a concern for suffering humanity. Interestingly, the
English affix 'muni' stems from the Latin 'munus', meaning gift, as well as
duty, while the term 'munificent' derives from 'munificus', meaning
bountiful. The six goswamis of Vrindavan, apparent retirees and renunciants,
wrote voluminously in isolation. But they did so with the express aim of
relieving 'the thousand natural shocks that flesh is heir
to' -- in the early sixteenth century and what they foresaw beyond.(Click here for the article alone)

What Would Jayananda Do?
by Vishoka das
Posted April 30, 2003

Respect listen stop the abuse

This post is in pursuance of the early article, "Deconstruction of Barriers" where we were pointing out that offenses made to devotees cause reactions, no matter what the reason. Krishna is adamant in His displeasure when any of His devotees are offended, and He punishes those who do. We are trying to prevent the devotees from falling into this tangled quagmire of offense and counter offense, like in the Daksa and Siva pastime. When devotees get caught up a scenario like the Daksa and Siva pastime of cursing and counter cursing, then we find whole sections of devotees rejecting and kicking away of whole other sections of devotees. This is almost like the pastime of Ravana kicking out his brother, Vibhisana, over what Ravana considered to be a deviation, which in reality was the kicking away of a saintly devotee of God. SHOCKING NEWS ABOUT CHAKRA!
by the Chakra editorial board
Posted April 23, 2003

Did you know that Chakra receives twice as many articles as it can publish? Did you know that we have lots more interesting news that we'd like to tell you -- but we just can't do it because we don't have time to post it all? Shocking but it's true. Many articles which are approved by Chakra's editorial board (a bunch of devotees who do not know how to set up a web page) never make it to our website, for the simple reason that our two hard-working webmasters simply can't keep up with all the work. You see, the fact is that all of us are volunteers. We don't get paid for running Chakra (and we don't want to get paid). But that means we must have other jobs to earn our living, and sometimes that doesn't leave enough time to do web work.

Would you like to help Chakra -- more important, would you like to serve the devotees by sharing more devotee news with them? If you are familiar with managing web pages, and you would like to help out in this way, why not write to webmaster@chakra.org and we'll see if we can add you to our team. Together we can serve the devotees better!
