During one of these, the incoming alert system suddenly blasted into our ears. A second later, a rocket impacted one hundred feet from our "ashram." I directed everyone to run to the bunker, grabbing my salagram silas and mrdanga drum as I dashed after them. (Click here for the full article) Halava the Great by Kurma Posted April 26, 2008
Here's the latest: Lanee from Melbourne writes: "Hello Kurma, could you kindly help with the recipe for: Apple & Pineapple Halava I had at Gopal's . Also the custard they serve with it isn't the same as mine? (Custard Powder, sugar, milk). This is the best dessert ever. Cheers Lanee." I was thinking that this would have been enough time to answer a simple philosophical question. To refresh your memory: "What philosophical understanding stood behind your public statement that older devotees who avoid the temple are 'offenders'?" There are probably different possiblities for such a delay, but my own suspicions are leading me to uncomfortable conclusions. 1. Could it be that the statement actually has no philosophical support and that an honest answer is too difficult? However, the Salagram Sila that manifested to me is too small to decorate or dress Him. Does anyone have a larger Salagram Sila that can be decorated, ornate and dressed to heart's content and if he/she is no longer able to worship and could give away? Then I would humbly accept the Lord to try to offer my sincerest service to Him. Of course, Lord will manifest on His own accord. email: santanusaha@hotmail.com. Corrections Re. Janakinatha's Obituary by Varnadi das Posted April 12, 2008 Please excuse any inconsistencies in the previous obituary. As I'm sure you understand, this is a stressful time for all involved. If Janakinath was 19 when he joined, it must have been in 1970, instead of 1973, as he was born in 1950 and passed away several days short of his 58th birthday. If he was initiated a year after joining, in 1974, he must have been 23 when he joined (this is likely the correct scenario). Also, he joined in the old Miami temple, not in Coconut Grove. I should have checked this at the time, but there was just too much going on. His widow, Vrndavan dd, is still doing her best to cope with the loss. Russian Devotee Drowns in Ganges by Vrindavan Lila Dasi Posted April 11, 2008
The day before Gaura Purnima this year we lost a very talented and prominent gurukuli boy, Krsna Das (Krsital Valery). He was born in Moscow to Bal Krsna das and Savitri dasi. He was a very open and friendly character, a talented movie-maker and an enthusiast of keeping the gurukuli family united. Several boys had been playing in a boat on the Ganges, diving and swimming. Krsna das's friends prompted him to jump off the boat also. Although he was a good swimmer, he badly misjudged the speed of the water where the boat had moved to. When he did jump in the water for the last time, he was swept away by the powerful current of the Ganges. The devotees I sought the Bhagavad-Gita for will receive it, along with other Russian BBT texts, shortly. I have also been given addresses of Russian-language Krishna-conscious websites they can use. The response exceeded my material expectations but is well in line with my Vaishnava expectations. Ramabhadra Prabhu (1957-2008) by Tirtharaj Das Posted April 26, 2008 Rambhadra Das was born in Western Australia on the 5th October 1957 to a family of country people. He was one of the early devotees to settle on New Govardhana where he spent several years working the fields and helping to establish the fledgling community. Hard working and passionate, yet friendly and open to others he developed a deep attachment to Sri Sri Radha Govardhanadhari the presiding Deities. Tulsi Devi by Draupadi Singh Posted April 11, 2008 Some of the dear devotees were not successful in contacting me at my cell phone number. Sorry for that.. For those who don't know, I am offering Tulsi manjari, seeds, leaves and wood. The goddess of devotion Tulsi ma-ji will always flourish in your hearts if you tend her, offer the leaves and manjaris to Krishna, and smell the fragrance which is more intoxicating than the best incense. The wood can be used for rituals invoking Vishnu. A scrap of Tulsi wood in a cremation pyre propels the soul towards Krishna at a very rapid pace. This is my email direction - drupatisingh@aol.com. If you send your requests and your information I will reply as swift as an arrow. Departure of Krsna Das by Nrsimhananda das Posted April 10, 2008
Krsna das, son of Bal Krsna das and Savitri dd, of Moscow, left his body in the Ganges the day before Gaura Purnima 2008. He was a bright light that lite up any darkness around him, and he was a promising, talented gurukuli video artist whose programs were both professional and devotional. But mostly, he was an incredible person with an easy smile, deep appreciation of Krsna consciousness, and charismatic personality. Spotlight: Prabhupada's Books: ISKCON's Prison Ministry traces its roots all the way back to 1962, when Srila Prabhupada visited Tihar Prison in New Delhi. "If you give me the chance to speak to all the members of the Jail," he wrote to superintendent Sri Puri, "It is quite possible for me to turn them into ideal characters." Yet it wasn't until 1988 that Candrasekhara Dasa established the official ISKCON Prison Ministry in the USA, as an outlet for householders to preach without having to leave their homes; all they had to do was write letters. I'd like to sell her to a responsible devotee, or better yet a group of devotees. Accepting a cow is like adopting a child for the next 25 years. You have to be willing to do whatever it takes to care for them, regardless of your situation. She will be ready to leave for a new home this summer. Daily she goes for a walk and knows how to be tied and lead etc. Her mother was a Milking Shorthorn and her father was a Jersey. From her pic you can see she is very beautiful with white legs in red body, with a tail that looks like it was dipped in milk. I already care for 5 other cows, (Usha 22years, Vrinda 19yrs, Chandra 7yrs, Rohini 3yrs, Kamadhenu 3 yrs), so if possible I would like this pretty girl to get a good home.
