Sanskrit Picture Dictionary

(Srila Prabhupada receives the Samskrta citra-kosa on his disappearance along with 1008 preparations in the Pushpa Samadhi during the recent festival in Mayapura Dhama.)

"It's so accessible, this is the first time I have ever thought I could teach my daughter Sanskrit. Thank you so much. It's beautiful. I can't wait for the next book to come out!" (Mother from Boston)

"Wow! This is so cool… I never thought you could say these things in Sanskrit … like 'I like mango' or 'The boy goes to school.' I'm going to buy this. (Teacher from International School) These are some of the comments I heard whilst I was flicking through the pages of this amazing resource.

The purpose of the Picture Dictionary is to demonstrate this very point, Sanskrit is not only a language of ritual and scriptures but it is very much a language of communication and can be taught as a second language in the contemporary classroom.

This notion has been internationally promoted by the Saàskåta Bharati organisation through their very successful Spoken Sanskrit courses. Now Goloka Education is presenting the Sanskrit language to the world through its Saàskrita citra koça and Saàskåta Vidyärambha and Teacher's Guide.

The Saàskåta citra-koça is a reference type book with simple examples of natural language and some reinforcement activities. The unique feature is the high quality illustrations that accompany each word in the dictionary. The Saàskåta Vidyärambha is a comprehensive systematic introduction to communicative Sanskrit. It is based on contemporary research for successful language acquisition, it is designed for ultimate accessibility and it is presented with beautiful images and a user-friendly layout.

The Teacher's Guide is not only for Teachers with their own classrooms. It is designed to be a guide to anyone teaching the course. Whether a Sunday school instructor, a busy mum home schooling her children or a qualified language expert, everyone will appreciate the clarity and comprehensiveness of this resource. It is loaded with blackline masters and full of ideas on how best to present the student workbook – Saàskåta Vidyärambha.

The response to the launch of the Saàskåta citra-koña in Mayapur has been astounding. The books literally sold themselves. The devotee community was so appreciative of the appearance of this resource. Devotees from all over the world appreciated the production. It has been a long time coming but well worth the wait.

Congratulations to Prana Prabhu and his team on a first class production. They have shown the world that ISKCON educators are capable of producing high quality resources for the education of our children. We are eagerly awaiting further publications from Goloka Education.
