What is Japathon, you may ask? Devotees come together and chant maximum rounds they can chant a day. Once one chants extra rounds, be it 1 or 50 extra rounds, chanting everyday becomes breeze. We find many newcomers take to chanting and many veterans chant 64 rounds on Japathon. Guru Maharaja leaving the Hindhuja hospital after 2 months of his admission. Braja Hari prabhu and Rajasuya prabhu went to the hospital to bring Guru Maharaja. Bhadra Balarama prabhu and Vaikunthapati prabhu were already in the hospital for the night shift. Ekanath Gaura prabhu, Acintya Nitai prabhu, Maha Varaha prabhu and Isvara Puri prabhu went in the morning to assist in this process. Guru Maharaja was given a shower in the morning, dressed in saffron attire, pavitram on his neck and decorated with auspicious tilak on his forehead. Many devotees are going to friends' and relatives' homes for holiday visits. As a houseguest, bring honour to Krsna and exercise courtesy and thoughtfulness.
Don't feel that householders "owe" you lodging or that your mere presence is payment enough. It may be true that you are a blessing, but not if that is your attitude. If you are a sannyasi or vanaprastha, that was your choice. It should not mean that you want the same lifestyle you had before but now want someone else to support it. Someone who invites you to stay does so for Krsna's sake. Accept what they give; do not ask for or take more. Vaisnavas always reciprocate; never take advantage of your host.

Up till the year 2002, there was just only one center, in the whole of French speaking West African countries. As usual, when Gurudeva was about winding up his tour of the continent, he asked his senior disciples who were with him how they would continue their Guru's mission whilst he was away. I was the first to speak, I told him I would like to develop the preaching in the French-speaking countries. He nodded approvingly and he commented that he was particularly happy that I have taken up this task and more so to see that in such a short time I have already started communicating in French. Why then are women vilified as the Unholy Personification of Maya? In Response to 'Arrival of a Demigod' by Kamlesh Patel Posted December 6, 2008 I very much agree with this author. Unfortunately many Gurus/Sanyasis have very high requirements. If you visit India, even today. The Sanyasis you come across literally beg from door to door for they daily needs and they don't make any requests. They literally take what they are given without asking who cooked it and what was used and so on. These are the real Sanyasis and not the ones who have a long list of conditions and requests. The word Swami means controller of the senses and thus if a so-called Swami has very strict requirements with various conditions, as he thinks he may fall down otherwise. Then this proves that he is not a controller of the senses. Thus not fit to be called a Swami. (Click here for the full article) Vraja Parikram By Oxcart by Kulasekhara das Posted December 3, 2008 This Kartika I found myself in Vrndavana and met up with Parasurama das for his oxcart parikrama around Vraja. In an effort to serve the Brij-Basis while performing parikrama he has constructed a cart which can be filled with prasadam and books. On top of the cart are Nitai-Gaurasundara and Nrsimhadeva deities. It is a straightforward program — during the day we walk and chant, while some devotees distribute prasadam and books from the cart. In the evening we pull into a village and show Krsna-conscious movies to the Brij-Basis. The movies are shown on a back-projection screen by a digital projector powered by a 12-volt battery, charged by solar panels on the roof. Parasurama takes advantage of his experience as a padayatra devotee and his natural love of chaos and insanity to create an adventurous preaching program, which greatly benefits all those who take part. (Counseling, Assistance, Resource, and Education for the Terminally-ill and Their Families). Their vision is that in every town or village, when devotees are in the process of dying, there will be trained volunteers to assist with their end-of-life needs. Assistance may include light housekeeping, writing letters, or chanting and reading to a patient. It may also include being present at the moment of death, and helping a devotee to remember Lord Krishna at that crucial moment. Sangita and Jusaniya are both registered nurses. This table used to be Srila Prabhupada's desk for a number of years. There is a very nice full blown two-page color photograph in the 2008 Vyasa Puja book, where you can see Srila Prabhupada sitting at this table when he had it at his desk; in that photograph Srila Prabhupada is looking at one of the volumes of the fifth canto of Srimad-Bhagavatam. Devotees Gave Up Everything for Krishna by a once-upon-a-time temple devotee Posted December 9, 2008 I read Kamlesh Patel's article about the treatment he received while visiting an ISKCON temple. I was impressed with the correctness of what he stated. Yes, it is Vedic culture to offer the guest excellent treatment. It is also stated that one should think of a guest as being as good as Vishnu. Can you imagine that? As good as Vishnu — truly a difficult and razor's-edge endeavor. One small slip, and you can make an offense. On the other hand, I also was thinking about how the devotees were eating off a metal plate and guests were eating off leaf plates. Personally, I don't think a metal plate, which is washed again and again and used by many different devotees, is better. A leaf plate is used once and discarded. That is a cleaner and much higher standard, in my opinion. BBT, due to the limitation of number of years it can enforce the copyrights, can only ensure to do so for probably maximum 100 years more, maybe less, if the expected legal extensions on how long successors of authors can hold the copyrights after an author has passed away, comes to be. If the copyright ownership is not extended by the US govt, then they will be in public domain in 60 years or so. Most probably within 100 years the books will pass into public domain, likely to be published by anyone, like Bible, Koran, Torah, Guru Grantha Sahib for want of better examples. Then it can be restricted on how they are printed only by the opinion for or against it by the members of the public who will be their main readers. He always tolerates all situations, he is not hankering for gain, he is equipoised even in the worst circumstances and is not dependent on the ordinary course of happenings in this world. Yesterday late morning, I came to Bombay, and went to see Jayapataka Maharaja in the afternoon. Bhakti Purushottama Maharaja, Braja Hari prabhu and Sunil Madhav from Chicago, came along with me. While driving to the hospital, I was feeling quite depressed. Just to think of the person who used to be so full of strength and vitality lying on bed in this condition is naturally painful. I was remembering those early days in Mayapur - going to swim in the Ganges with him. With steady, powerful strokes he used to casually swim across that river. So many incidences flashed across my mind - once Radha Jivan lost his breath in the middle of the river and panicked and started to cry out for help, and Jayapataka Maharaja came to his rescue and carried him to the shore. Many of us should follow them. But if due to disease we need special help, then we don't need to take sannyasa. Sannyasa is for a simple lifestyle. A sannyasi leads a life which is not dependent on others but is dependent on Krishna. This person, however, cannot even get water for neti. He expects most things to be done for him. It is not surprising, when the position of sannyasi comes with the perk of free servants. I don´t think so. He is not demanding ghee, sweets, silk dhotis, servants, etc. He is just requesting, or suggesting, that which is necessary for a vaishnava life. Vaishnavas should be clean, healthy, in good state of mind, etc. Good food is basic for a simple life. A clean place to live is basic for a human life. So what is the problem? A Hare Krsna traveling rock star preacher would be asking for silk sheets, lots of sweets, lots of curd and ghee, a giant soft bed and golden faucets in the bathroom (s). This sannyasi has allergies, severe allergies, both food and chemical. Granted, he has "special" needs but not all special needs should be ignorantly categorized as excessive and non-Vaishnava like. What if our traveling preacher were in a wheel chair and required an assistant from the local sanga to lift him into and out of bed? Sri Sri Gaura Nitai sat inside a beautifully decorated chariot which was pulled by bullocks.
